CS Fullerton Game Thread

Well the hell is everyone?

And speaking of such things, where the hell is the noise at the game??? Maybe it's just the radio broadcast, but I can't hear a damn bit of noise.

Crazy ass game. CSF just hit 3 stright 3's to open the 2nd half. The Griz are shooting 58% from the field, 67% from 3 pt land and trail by 10. Hasquet has 19 pts on 4-5 3 pt shooting and 9 boards, Griz need to cleanup the turnovers and they will get back in the game.

And get in the crotch of those guys launchin' 3-balls, because they sure ain't missing many of 'em.

No shit, they knew they had to guard the perimeter coming into the game. Cams ankle must be bothering him some which makes D tough

Geeeeeeeeezus! Take a FRIGGIN' step out and DEFEND!!! That's horrible. They're just watching Fullerton's shooting practice at this point.

Wow. As well as CSF played for 10 minutes, they've played that sh*tty for the past 6 minutes. The Griz have an 18 lead cut to 8 with 3 to play.

Griz had a shot, then got more or less screwed on an intentional foul call that ended up costing them 6 points.

Just got back from game. thank god the Griz shot as well from the field as they did or this would have been a blow out of all blow outs at home. Now, if they could have all their freethrows they would have tied the game.

But, heck, that team shot so well even with hands in their faces.

Anyway, Griz will get another shot at Cal State Fullerton on December 20th at their place to get revenge. What would the odds be that both teams shoot as well as they did today in the next game? I sure hope we shoot as well, and they fall flat.

I also just got back from the game. The Griz lost to an athletic and very hot-shooting team. It looked like a lot of Fullerton's 3's came with hands in the face. Nonetheless, Tinks was not happy with the effort on defense. My major area of concern is the 3 position. Ryan S is a helluva shooter and a good passer, but really is more of a 2 being forced to play the 3. We are getting virtually no rebounding from that position and also are getting out-sized (with the exception of the few minutes Jordan is getting at the 3) and out-quicked at the 3. I think the loss of Watson, just before the season started, may haunt us all season.

I couldn't have been more wrong. I thought this would be a blowout! All that stuff I said about the schedule....forget it.....I think the schedule is just fine.

Tinks had a pretty accurate scouting report, and the Griz appeared to be getting a hand in their shooters faces most of the time, but they knocked them down so you have to give them credit. The Griz shot some damn good percentages themselves. It will be interesting to see if CSF continues to score the ball like they did tonight. If the Griz can shore up the 3 spot, then I like our chances. Tinks said Watson leaving left a big void, and so far his assessment is spot on. Damn girlfriends anyway.

CSF looked like a very good team, and they were very good tonight. Their outside guys are all deadly from 3-pt. range. As has been said, CSF made their 3's even when we were in their face. However, we weren't in their face enough. CSF set some high picks, which resulted in 3's and were hard to defend.

UM had too many turnovers in the first half and early in the second half, and then didn't have many, if any, for the last dozen or so minutes. CSF didn't have many turnovers (by recollection).

Hasquett was in some foul trouble in both halves, and we needed him on the court more. At least 3 of his fouls were marginal or questionable calls. Rundles didn't look as explosive as usual, so my guess is that his toe was bothering him. All 8 of the main UM players, plus Vanderjagt in an appearance late in the first half, played well or fairly well. Martin played very well on the offensive end, with good shooting and a large number of assists.

UM had alot of nice feeds and assists. CSF played physical defense on the guards, and we probably didn't get enough calls. I didn't notice blatant ones being missed, tho.

The Griz let the game get away from them early in the second half, but kept battling and made a pretty good run later in the game. UM got a couple steals late, almost had a couple more, and had the refs take two away from them (altho the game was not winnable by then). The refs blew the intentional foul call, when UM still had an outside chance of coming back. The CSF player did an acting job (and later admitted it), and the ref bought it.

We didn't get many offensive boards. Staudacher had some nice shots, and a nice shooting streak later in the game, but I think an earlier poster is right in observing that he's not big enough to be a good rebounder and probably is more of a 2.

I like this team and how they're playing. I think we need to be better and more physical D. We played unselfish. We made good decisions much of the time, but there were a number of exceptions too.
