CSF looked like a very good team, and they were very good tonight. Their outside guys are all deadly from 3-pt. range. As has been said, CSF made their 3's even when we were in their face. However, we weren't in their face enough. CSF set some high picks, which resulted in 3's and were hard to defend.
UM had too many turnovers in the first half and early in the second half, and then didn't have many, if any, for the last dozen or so minutes. CSF didn't have many turnovers (by recollection).
Hasquett was in some foul trouble in both halves, and we needed him on the court more. At least 3 of his fouls were marginal or questionable calls. Rundles didn't look as explosive as usual, so my guess is that his toe was bothering him. All 8 of the main UM players, plus Vanderjagt in an appearance late in the first half, played well or fairly well. Martin played very well on the offensive end, with good shooting and a large number of assists.
UM had alot of nice feeds and assists. CSF played physical defense on the guards, and we probably didn't get enough calls. I didn't notice blatant ones being missed, tho.
The Griz let the game get away from them early in the second half, but kept battling and made a pretty good run later in the game. UM got a couple steals late, almost had a couple more, and had the refs take two away from them (altho the game was not winnable by then). The refs blew the intentional foul call, when UM still had an outside chance of coming back. The CSF player did an acting job (and later admitted it), and the ref bought it.
We didn't get many offensive boards. Staudacher had some nice shots, and a nice shooting streak later in the game, but I think an earlier poster is right in observing that he's not big enough to be a good rebounder and probably is more of a 2.
I like this team and how they're playing. I think we need to be better and more physical D. We played unselfish. We made good decisions much of the time, but there were a number of exceptions too.
