Crazy Offensive Formation

In view of our glaring weakness at OL and little blocking, please find a suggestion with the disclaimer of not knowing whether or not it is legal as follows.
Other than the center, leave the OL on the bench. Replace them with four additional wide receivers. Are they eligible for passes? Or perhaps just one of them if declared?
Some of you will know if this or a variety of this is legal. Comments are welcome and appreciated.

You have to have 7 men on the line of scrimmage. Only the people on the ends of those 7 are eligible to catch a ball. Your other guys lined up off the line are of course eligible as well still.

It can be done, I've done it as a coach. It basically involves a bunch of bubble screens. As there isn't a lot of options as your interior guys are still ineligible and can't run down field more than 5 yards before the ball is thrown. It's a gimmick that can work a time or two, but because the options are so limited out of it it's pretty easy to defend once you've seen it a a couple times.

You have to have 7 on the line of scrimmage. The inside 5 are not eligible to catch a pass. So to answer, your question... you could do this, it would just spread the D really wide and the QB could only throw to a player on the outside of each side or in the backfield (behind the line of scrim)

Below is an example... the 5 guys on the Line and covered by WR are not available to catch a pass.

If I understand you gentlemen correctly, if would give us two additional WR for our opponents to worry about.
Wouldn't this make it more difficult to defend our deep receivers and put our best athletes on the field as well?

Not really sure why we aren't doing this when we have so many big WRs

Not really. Even if you had 4 additional receivers on the field the defense doesn't need to worry about them catching a pass as they wouldn't be eligible to do so. I guess you'd have to worry about them as blockers, but that's about it. In this formation you won't be throwing the ball deep as your quarterback has about 2 seconds to throw the ball due to having 4 non lineman trying to block. I suppose you could maybe get off a jump ball fade route, but it's not like there is a lot of opportunity for receivers to get downfield. It's really just a way to spread out the field as someone early stated
