Could a Group of Refs Be Worse?

The group of 3 refs for the Lady Griz were either terrible or they had a terrible night. Lost control of the game. I was concerned that the Lady Griz might lose some players for the tourney. The refs went to the monitor multiple times including 3 or 4 times in last few minutes of game.

The crowd was yelling and booing at them on dozens of occasions. One domineering guy and two fairly silent women. I heard some women calling him Captain America. He made most of the calls, especially earlier in the game, even when he was far from the play and/or out of position. Unfortunately, he was making alot of wrong or questionable calls too. The women were making better calls, but when they stayed silent with a no-call, the guy would blow his whistle from far away. He seemed to think that he needed to call a foul on the Griz every time an Idaho St player fell down on a drive--and then several Idaho St players started flopping on drives to get the calls.

Selvig didn't seem very happy with the refs. The crowd certainly wasn't. What were the radio guys saying?

When huddling with one or both other refs, especially after looking at the monitor for up to 5 minutes, he liked to put his hand on the butt of one of the female refs. Some women near me were yelling at him to take his hand off the woman's butt several times.

I don't know if these refs are bad individually, and they have been around in the past, but they were terrible as a group. They hurt the credibility of the game. Officials: Kyle Bacon, Jeneane Pence, Lorena Ahumada.

That being said, after playing great at the beginning of the game (about 15 minutes), the Lady Griz throttles back and eventually let Idaho St. back into the game. That was unfortunate.

Yeah, the officiating must have been really terrible for you guys -- only four Bengals fouled out. I can't understand why they couldn't get that fifth one out.

It seems to me as though the male ref in last night's game severely lacks integrity. Everyone in the building knew he got that out of bounds call wrong. They reviewed the video, but refused to amend the call.

It appeared the male ref wanted a lot of collaboration so he could get his hands on the ladies. Not a bad idea generally but its a bit tacky in front of 3900 people legitimately criticizing your every move. It would be interesting to see what the women refs thought of that. They didn't seem too concerned during the game. I suspect its like being an athlete in intense competition and you just stay focused on what you are doing.

I am not a women and I sure as hell would feel a women's hand on my butt during a gathering at the ref's conference. From every report we got from fellow watchers the male ref was an ass! Poor calls all night by Bacon. He should stick with 8th graders.

Not surprised to find out that Mr. Bacon went to MSU from 1992-1996. Kinda funny, don't you think?

AHA!!!! I knew it! Thank you, Chief Inspector Clouseau! Why hasn't the BSC taken action on this guy before. I really don't think the MSU connection is relevant, but competence is. Of course, Fullerton has MSU conncections as well.

"Inspector Jacques Clouseau: There is a time to laugh and a time not to laugh, and this is not one of them." :D

I also thought officiating was terrible, going both ways. The worse call was the one when the GRIZ got called for a personal as an ISU shot went in. Not only was it not a foul, but the refs took it further by calling it a technical. I believe that possession alone accounted for 6 points. I was losing it yelling through the computer at the referees. Good thing they could not hear me. I would have been ejected from the place. LOL!!!! I was pissed to no end.

Eh, I've seen worse reffed LG games. I don't blame them for reviewing video multiple times at the end of the game either because I would expect them to want to get the calls right in the conference tourney.

The Kayleigh Valley foul on Woods' 3-pointer could have just as easily been a no-call since she was straight up but there was contact on the arm when Woods initiated it with her follow-through, so can't blame them for calling that.

The only call I really had a problem with was the already mentioned technical on Feller. She was just blocking out, nothing malicious, and the ISU player fell to the floor when trying to fight through it. Definitely not a technical and I wouldn't even call a normal foul (no grabbing or flinging involved). They even reviewed and still decided it was a technical. Now, maybe the tech was because of something said on the court (Feller was getting worked up as a few of the LG were getting frustrated by that point) and that I could see, but GoGriz didn't even mention it let alone share the ref's explanation for the biggest momentum swing of the game, so we will never know.

**I missed part of the first half so I might have missed some questionable calls. Also, I wasn't paying attention to any sexual harassment from the male ref but if true, I hope the conference addresses it.

The guy who was horrible in the group the first night, was with another group with a very good head ref and a good female ref today. He didn't blow his whistle as much and was fine. I suppose either the lead ref or the conference said something to him (or he read egriz). The blond with short hair in the group on Wed. night is apparently a very good ref.

As I said in another thread, the short bald ref who was one of the UM/NAU refs tonight is absolutely terrible and needs to be moved on. He is terrible every night. He goofs up games. Heard that a guy with a Big Sky pin and credentials was overhead saying negative things about that ref during the game tonight.

PR exposed the real issue here. Almost all BSC refs are sub par and not ready for prime time.

I think some are good and many are fine. Many of them do multiple conferences. Some are weak, and some are horrible. Very mixed. Should be better overall.

I am easily within earshot of that guy. After the call on Gfeller I could hear him yell "That was the worst call of this tournament!" But I believe that was directed at another official.
