2. Thoroughly ASSess the reasons for the seemingly large inconsistency in team play in the past 2 years.
3. Thoroughly ASSess the reasons you say the team seemed not to be "on" in a number of games in the last half of the season. It's probably okay to give your ASSessment in private and to the QB Club, but probably best not to say it so much to the press.
4. Continue to ASSess the inability to win consistently on the road. You didn't invent the problem, but it seems not to have improved.
5. ASSesss whether the offensive and defensive schemes are too complicated, create too many situations for big and costly mistakes to occur, and/or put too much pressures on players in certain positions.
6. Have the right offense and players to be able to pick up 3d and 2 and 4th and 1. 4th down conversion percentage must have been pretty weak this year.
7. Embrace the program, traditions and supporters more. Sure, you are the head coach and you get to run the show, and will want to put your stamp on the program, but the program and traditions are bigger and more imporatant than any head coach. Great success on the field will largely trump these other things, but you may not achieve great success without embracing these other things. In any event, you will have a more pleasant time in Missoula and will have more understanding if you embrace more aspects of the program and more of the supporters. Say only good things when coaches leave, as they have developed many friendships and supporters while they were at UM. Perhaps less of a my way or the highway approach would be better too.
8. Get more QUALITY kids on the roster.
9. You have my full support. For one more year. Ha.
That is a lot of ass. And I fixed #8 for you.
