Not to burst the hype bubble on McDowell, but Rivals had him as a two-star recruit out of high school, and he had only three offers, two from from third-tier FBS schools, and one from Southern University.

He isn't in the Ochs,, Drew, Swagger, Sneed, or Johnson league. Just sayin' to keep it real.

Just so you know, 3 low tier fbs offers are better than 30 fcs offers. That's the reality of the fcs.
The reality is that we don't know whether those FBS offers were scholarship offers or that they were for him as a QB. He's obviously a good athlete so could be a prospect for a lot of positions.

How many offers would that be in metric?

Seeing as we’re down to the last game of the conference season I thought I’d bump this thread and give a shout out to big Clifton McDowell. What a hell of a player he turned out to be and what an excellent pickup. Hopefully he sticks around and uses his final year of eligibility next season so we can see what he and Ah Yat can do!

[I like this guy's attitude and what he has to say.]

"I went out there on the 10th (Wednesday) and it was everything that coach Green said: loving environment, family environment, they treated me like I was already on the team. It just felt too good."

McDowell liked his visit so much that he'll be calling Montana home starting May 30. He announced his commitment to the Grizzlies on Saturday after a three-day visit.

He has two years of eligibility left after stops at the FBS, FCS and junior college levels.

"Competing for the starting job and making the team better, bringing a national championship to the team," he said of his goals before expanding on what gives him that confidence.

"If I was guaranteed a starting spot, that probably wouldn’t be the school I wanted to go to because I’m just a fierce competitor," McDowell said. "As far as me choosing Montana, it was the O-line is deep, it was more than just what school is going to pay for my scholarship.

"You got to think of longevity, what team is actually going to have a chance to win a national championship. After visiting and seeing the guys, it really motivated me to see some guys that care about it just like I do."

McDowell also had NCAA Division I offers from Norfolk State, Savannah State, Texas A&M Commerce and Delaware State. He had originally chosen Southern because of his familiarity with coaches who previously recruited him, he said.

McDowell will play for Pease, who is also the quarterbacks coach, at 6-foot-4 and 220-225 pounds, he said. That's a similar build to Lucas Johnson (6-3, 223), who started last year after transferring from San Diego State.

"(Pease) showed me clips from last season and the guy you had from San Diego State, we kind of have the same frame," McDowell said. "I feel like it’s going to be a continuation from last season. I’ve seen how they like to run the quarterbacks, and mix in a couple deep throws and play-action. I feel like that will be very beneficial to me and the team."

"I definitely feel like I can bring a nice spark to the team with the running back and receiver corps they have and the linemen," he said. "I feel like I’ll be not a missing piece but an adding piece to make the team more explosive."

Love the article and really think he’s done what he set out to do here, which is to compete and earn his spot, and to elevate the team to national title contenders. Without him I doubt the Griz would be where they are today!

Sure did  I think with another year in this system McDowell could really start lighting up the scoreboard. He doesn’t always throw the prettiest ball, but the dude is a straight up gamer and seems to get better as the game goes on.

They all do with this guy. Remember how he said we were going to finish in sixth or seventh place again. He said this season was literally over after the NAU game.

Of course he's been absent for weeks now, but if we lose again this season, he'll absolutely be back immediately to tell us how he knew all along we were trash.

Just a worthless individual.

If I’m honest, I wasn’t exactly bursting with confidence after that NAU game either. Hell I started a poll on whether Haucks contract should be renewed……been eating a lot of crow this season. I should never have doubted Hauck

The difference is that you and I, and most people, can take in information and adjust our opinions based on new information. I was super down after the NAU game too. That was a stomach punch of a game.

I have just never seen a "fan" take so much glee in the team's failure and hiding away when the team is doing well. That can't be fun, at all

A huge difference in a poster who had concerns, voiced them, and can come back and say “maybe I had it wrong”. Good on you for that. He will never do that. Ever. He just wants to shit on the Griz every chance he gets. I wish he’d root for the cats instead to be honest.

I was gonna say, I’m pretty sure he’s been a scat fan troll the whole time.

Is Vidlak still the best QB at UM since Jordy?

;)

Since you’re talking about comments aging well and that was on the first page of this thread, just had to do it!
