Conference Tournament Time

What's with all this Bracketology Griz talk. Right now I say the Griz have a 50/50 chance of making the Big Dance!

Bracketology has the Griz as a #14 seed in the East vs. Houston right now. Must be due to all of the #1 seeded losses in conference tournaments mentioned earlier in the thread. If we take care of business, that's a not a bad seeding. I can't imagine us moving up much higher than that. Especially with Lunardi.
I suspect you’re right about a possible cause for the change. The five top seeds eliminated from the “bid pool” had an average NET rank of 109. Their “replacements” (four champions and the favorite in the Summit) have an average NET of 124. That's a pretty big drop-off. The average SOS also dropped a lot, from 223 to 255.

With the Griz sitting this morning at #123 in NET rank and #240 in SOS, they are very competitive with "replacements," where they were at a disadvantage compared to the eliminated #1 seeds.

And another one almost bit the dust. In the CAA semifinal, 1-seed Hofstra had to go into overtime to win 78-74. No dog in this race, but I thought Hofstra benefited from a number of questionable calls.

Meanwhile Gonzaga is beating the crap out of Pepperdine, 40-20, with 3-4 min left in the half.

Numbers are starting to even out. Iona, the 1-seed in the Metro Atlantic, won the championship and has the auto-bid. No chance for a second bid from the MAAC. Actually, Iona needed the three tournament wins to have an overall winning record for the year (17-15).

BTW ... There's some damn good basketball going on right now. Why don't you drop the Lady Griz bitching and watch some of it?

Holy crap! Another buzzer-beater ending. With about 2 sec left on the clock a big guy for Northern Kentucky (not a "normal" three-point shooter) launched a beautiful trey and hit it clean to give the 2-seed in the Horizon the lead, 64-63. Oakland-Michigan had about 1.6 sec and got off a desperation shot, which got close but didn't go in.

There were some blowouts today, for sure, but also an OT game, plus four others that were decided by 1, 3, 3, and 4 points.

CBS Bracketology has the Griz as a #14 vs Texas Tech.

OH MY GOD

My dream game! My TWO schools playing each other! We'd get killed, but I'd be there in a New York MINUTE!!

The Big Sky champion will be the team that gets hot from the 3pt line...for this conference, there simply is no other way. That means UNC and MSU and Portland ST and possibly UM or EWU...little separation.

By my count, there are/were 18 tournament games scheduled for today. Two first-round games in the ACC are already over, but there are plenty more, including three finals.

Best of all, quite a few are on "regular" TV: ESPN, ESPNU, ESPN2, and CBSSN. For those of you with good streaming, there are another four on ESPN+.

Right now (under 3 min in game), St. Mary's is still wanting it more than Gonzaga. They lead 56-47.

I had them in anyway, but they probably don't want to leave any doubt. The Zags are sure to get a bid, but they're probably screwing their chance for the top-top seed.

There's enough time for a comeback ... but it's dwindling fast.

Like I said earlier, you guys are possibly wasting your time speculating if we don't even win the Big Sky tourney!

No "possibly" about it: The Big Sky is clearly a one-bid conference, so the Griz have to win the tourney to get into the Big Dance. Otherwise, it's off to the NIT.

Still, speculating about how all these other results might affect the Griz is way better than interminable bitching about the Lady Griz. (And please, keep that topic off this thread.)

We need a big man to do anything if we get in the tourney. I think we need Akoh to win the Big Sky Tourney as well. IMO...

Crowd at least in the lower level looks way better than anything in Reno, especially for a 9:30 AM game.

And these are the two teams furthest from Boise. I expect the crowds to be 10x better than Reno for the Griz/EWU/UI/ISU/Weber games....

Boise is a much better location for everyone not named Sac State.

Sac is destroying NAU right now. Not a surprise I guess.

So Sac State it is. The Griz played pretty well against Sac in the second half last weekend. Interesting situation to play the same team back to back.

I actually expected NAU to win this one. They had a strong game against the Griz and knocked UNC out last weekend. I thought maybe they were going to be a hot team coming into the conference.
