Right now, the only bubble buster (or “bid stealer” as the preferred term this year, I guess) still playing is Davidson. If they win, that would most likely bump a bubble team because Rhode Island will surely get a bid based on its numbers (RPI =14, BPI = 25, SOS = 61, ranked #25 in the AP).
I’ve always had soft spot for Davidson in basketball, which has a great tradition in the sport (although not so much in recent years). Here’s this tiny private school (less than 2,000 students) that has, and still sometimes can, run with the big boys. And, since the Griz are in, I don’t care whose bubble they might burst.
The matchups in the Ivy and Sun Belt don’t really matter because those are both one-bid conferences. The Kentucky - Tennessee and Houston - Cincinnati games have no real impact on the bids because all four team are in, whatever happens in the games today.
Addendum: Even with their tournament run so far, I do not think Davidson gets in unless they win today. Their numbers are just not that great. If they do win, the bubble they burst might be St. Bonaventure. The Bonnie's numbers are good enough to be in the running for a bid, but not as strong as Rhode Island -- and I do not see the committee giving the A-10 three bids.
