Conference Play Begins: EWU at Montana Game Thread

EWU played better down the stretch and rebounding hurt us.
UM fell in love with the three pointer, and bad play from one of the rotation, and too much dependent upon two or three players. I was a bit of the MSU game and they are very good. There is no excuse for a team to not know that there are no more timeouts. Someone on the staff messed up. Idaho looked fair so UM will be tested there. I'm predicting a 4th place finish.

The difference in rebounds was just ridiculous.

For a program that "hangs its hat" on defense ... the Griz are piss-poor. Or, EWU has better shooters than just about anybody. The Eags shot poorly on treys, but went over 48% on field goals. The Griz seemed to be improving, scored 80 points, and still lost at home. Yes, this is only one game, but I'm no longer as optimistic about this bunch as I was a week ago.

Well that sucked! Can’t afford to drop games at home in conference play with how tough road wins are to come by, good news is nobody goes 18-0. Got destroyed on the glass and let them shoot 34 free throws. Not gonna win very many games doing that, especially when they make 30 of them. Whitney was completely non-existent tonight and that hurt us. The turning point of the game was when Decuire made his first sub of the second half with about 10 minutes to go. We had a 7 point lead and that’s where we completely got off the rails. The starters were dealing, and I get that guys get winded but we should’ve tried to stick with it until the under 8 media timeout. Put this behind you and move on!

I’ll give them one more chance but if they do this against Idaho we have a legitimate cause for concern. Interested to see the cat-Eastern game on Saturday.

Don’t know the totals yet but a glaring weakness is once again exploited, rebounding, rebounding, rebounding. However I lay the blame for this loss on the coaches. Poor substitution, poor play calling and get beat by the oldest trick in the book, on an inbounds pass send a player streaking to the other end for an easy lay up. Of course poor foul shooting doesn’t help either.
How other Big Sky teams, especially E Washington are able to recruit quickness, height, and shooters is beyond me. And I don’t buy into the theory that Easter’s requirements are lower and they can get players who can’t qualify for the U of M. I think that’s bull shit.
Anyway a very disappointing showing by the Griz. They absolutely have to protect home court. Saturday is critical. Going 0-2 at home will really put us in a hole. I realize it’s only 2 games but these are two teams we have to beat at home.
Attendance looked pretty decent for a December night between holidays. Don’t know what the final count was but the Griz could really use a good crowd.
