Coach Stitt (Combined threads)

Wonder if telling Brady Gustafson that he was starting against Northern Colorado, and then not playing him, may have had anything to do some seniors not being happy with the way things were going?

Or maybe him not playing had something to do with the way things were going with some seniors?

Interesting reading the Ari and PR posts. Show's pretty conclusively that wisdom does not necessarily come with age.

Oh BS, Ari. I know these guys well and probably a heck of a lot better than you do. I have credibility because I support the team and have developed considerable trust over the years. Have you? You appear to be the one who doesn't get full or truthful information and just repeats rumors. Ya, I know you are younger and played high school ball at Loyola a decade or so ago.

Not sure how many time I need to reiterate that I am not trying to fight with you man, nor am I trying to get into some sort of dick measuring contest about who knows who and what they told them. I was simply offering a different perspective. Being a fan close to the program is VERY different than going to school with players, and interacting with them in a completely different way. You are right, I did grow up in Missoula and have supported the program all my life in various ways and still do. I'm glad you do the same, but dont come at me with your assumptions about my support for the UM program and question the relationships I have within it. Maybe I dont do things the same as you, but that doesn't mean the things I do or give to the program means less than what you do because I choose to do it differently. Dont be so quick to attack all the time, we are all on the same side here. I was trying to provide some perspective that was different that yours. Just because I disagreed with you doesn't mean I was challenging you or saying you are wrong, just a different opinion.

Look, Ari. Initially, I said 2 basic things. I had talked to some players, one a returning defensive starter and leader, who told me that he didn't think it was accurate that a particular senior last year had completely gone off in a bad direction and been overly disruptive. I also said you had provided no evidence that the senior issues on the team had caused the severe decline at the end of the season. And you haven't. I did not say you were wrong. In fact, I said your post was nice/good. I did not question your sources.

Then, you came back with your prior post questioning my sources and knowledge. So, I then called you on that. And please, don't give me the go-to-school with players BS. Your bio says you have been at your present job since 2003. You can't possibly have gone to school with any of the players who were on the team in recent years.

And, on the source thing, I will take my sources over yours anytime. I know a lot of people involved with Griz football and have for years. Not just current and former players, and their parents, but also coaches, trainers, athletic dept, large and small boosters/supporters, etc. I have developed considerable trust by supporting the team for decades. Alot of people have fed information to me over the years, just like they do to Brint. If you don't want me to question your information/sources, then don't question mine. And, please spare us with the age crap, or you will get a response there too.

Consider whether you may want to spend more time supporting your statements, than questioning me or my information/sources.

Wasn't and still not interested in a dick measuring contest. So congrats, although I don't agree with everything you said, I give up. This is far too tiring, and is becoming more pointless as the posts progress.

It wasn't and isn't a dick measuring contest, and no one ever asked you to agree with everything I said. I respected what you said, initially; don't know why you weren't able to do the same with regard to me.
And Ari Gold, I introduced some of the guys to Marty Daniels last night. His plane was delayed, so we weren't able to make it to practice, as has been planned.

No, Ari presented no evidence. He presented a theory. Until you or someone provides evidence, then please don't ask anyone for evidence to disprove the theory. Again, the players I have talked to have not backed up Ari's theory, nor has the one defensive starter/leader I talked to agreed with the rumor about one particular defensive player.

Just because they didn't echo what they said to me doesn't mean it isn't true. Just as I censored the things I said to my parents when I was their age, I'm betting they aren't going to fully disclose issues, especially problems in the locker room to someone that is as old or older than their parents. Kids tell censored truths to adults, as most parents would verify. While I would be considered an adult, I am only a few years removed from the shoes they are standing in now and like it or not, they are going to relate to me differently than they are you. Definitely not trying to take shots here, as I would prefer this not become petty, but its just the truth. You're right, I cannot provide verifiable facts that can support this, but hearing nearly the same story from a numerous individuals speaks to validity. That being said, true or not, the issue players have been exited from the program via graduation and a new freshman class is here to start learning what the current UM culture is about.

Very well said, and one of the best posts I have seen on eGriz in a long time.

I thought it was a crappy post. Dick measuring wasn't involved. Ari questioned my sources and relationship with the program first; not vice versa. He also essentially lied about having gone to school with the guys on the team. He graduated well before any of them even came to UM. Suggesting fans of the program can't know as much as he does completely overlooks multiple other important things, including the number of relatives who have played with the program, including one younger that he is, and relationships with player parents. Ari just makes assumptions about stuff he doesn't have a clue about. I didn't question what he does or doesn't do with the program, so don't know why he said that junk. Ari came after me first; not vice versa. Maybe he's the one who ought to be careful about coming on the attack.

Yup, Ari did start it, and now he's whining because I responded. No. 1 and 2 below are my 2 early responses to Ari's posts (very nice and gentle, not questioning his sources or him, just saying what I heard and read). No. 3 is a response I made to someone else's post (not Ari's), in about the 12th page )and after 10 or so of his posts), and Ari starts coming after me ("attacking" in his parlance). I'm okay with that, but if he or anyone is going to say the crap he said, a response from me may well be forthcoming. I like Ari. I see him at QB Club and used to at the gym. He's too old to have gone to college with any of the current team. Didn't think that insinuation by him was overly honest.

1. "Good post, even though I don't agree with all of it, including the premise that it takes 3 years at a minimum....."

2. "I heard this rumor, or whatever it is, multiple times, and heard one big name mentioned each. I then asked a defensive starter, who is back this year, if the rumor was true, particularly involving the one player. He said, from where he sat, it was not true. In any event, I believe it's the job of the coach or coaches to make sure things like that don't happen. A good college coach has to be able to control and run his football team. That's part of the job."

3. "No, Ari presented no evidence. He presented a theory. Until you or someone provides evidence, then please don't ask anyone for evidence to disprove the theory. Again, the players I have talked to have not backed up Ari's theory, nor has the one defensive starter/leader I talked to agreed with the rumor about one particular defensive player." [The theory was that one or more disruptive seniors caused the season to fall apart at the end.]

If Ari thinks my above 3 posts are "attacks" that would justify him calling after me, then I disagree. That's all.

Actually, it shows the wisdom does come with age and experience (and knowledge).

Awesome is reached at 17 pages.

I'm having trouble weighing quantity vs. quality. There are occasionally awesome posts on this forum but they usually aren't part of a 17 page discussion that wanders so far from topic. Stitt has a three year contract which, unless unbeknownst forces exert themselves, he will fulfill. The stars have aligned with a favorable schedule. If he is able to produce a 7-4 record with a win against the Cats (even not making the playoffs) he probably will get a one year extension. Hopefully the Griz will be better than that. If not Stitt will be a large subject of conversation next November. I know many of you, like myself, are just waiting for September 2.
