Boy howdy. Gets 4 years without ever being a head coach and ever proving a thing on the field...love what he's done with recruiting, and I'm about 80% certain this won't come back to bite the program in the ass, but it seems....unnecessary? Unless the issue was what recruits were saying/doing because he's only "interim"?Love BK and excited to see what he can do. However, eyebrow raising with how this was handled from the start. At least from the outside the optics are confusing at best.
Odds are, there was a pretty good chance that whomever was hired would have a similar background when it comes to head coach experience and would have gotten a similar deal.Boy howdy. It will never make sense that they gave him a one year contract to begin with.Boy howdy. How many new coaches are hired with a one year contract? It almost never happens.Odds are, there was a pretty good chance that whomever was hired would have a similar background when it comes to head coach experience and would have gotten a similar deal.
Is this thread talking about a one-year contract? How many new coaches are hired with a one year contract? It almost never happens.
Would you have been fine with the hire of a FBS/FCS coordinator with zero head coaching experience with a 3-4 year deal?Wow. Not thrilled with this.
He absolutely could nail being a head coach, but if he lays an egg... I wanted to at least see some of his results from this fall before extending his contract that long.
I would be happy with a semi-competent athletic director.Would you have been fine with the hire of a FBS/FCS coordinator with zero head coaching experience with a 3-4 year deal?
You are also happy with cheap hookers. Not judging, just a matter of personal perspective.I would be happy with a semi-competent athletic director.
Agreed. Im hearing the only hesitation on some recruits was his 1 year deal... hes had a pretty high level of success on the recruiting trail despite this, now he can cook. Id assume we see several more big commitments in the coming few weeks with this news.Very good and smart move IMO. There are current players and recruits that need to know he will be around for a while. This is big peace of mind for many of them. They love BK and everything I am seeing is solidifying that for me too
Guy brings an energy. And seems to try to get to know his players at a personal level which many head coaches don't widely do. Will go and talk it up with campers even. Natural leader. Have to see him during the season right, but it's not like he's a new young coach. Guy has been around a lot of big time football and knows how he wants it done.Very good and smart move IMO. Do we know the buyout? I would also assume this is a pretty friendly compensation number for UM.Man IDK if I would have given him a 4 year deal. I will admit, he's had a great offseason and the optics and excitement around the program right now are very high. You can even see it in the fundraising as QB Club has added over 80 new members since he has become head coach. That said, I can't justify a 4 year contract when he's never coached a game before. I get what HHB is saying about an external hire would've likely gotten this same deal, but I think if I were AD I would've went with 2-3 years and made the buyout low enough that you have an out in the event that things don't go well this year. We shall see. I hope he's wildly successful and he has one hell of a track record as a position coach, but this is a completely different ball game.
