Coach Kennedy’s coaching pedigree and resume

Ok went to UM Western and is from Northern Idaho. Had 3 years experience establishing recruiting pipelines at the likes of Billings West as MSU’s head coach is the part of his resume that I would be the most interested in.
Yes, Choate was a great recruiter, visionary, motivator. Brought some dudes to MSU. Won a lot of games, but fell short in getting his team to the Championship. Not sure he is a great head coach. See, his record at Nevada. And I know its difficult to win at Nevada, but they are at the bottom of the MWC.

I don't see how any of those guys are a more proven commodity than just giving Coach Kennedy a chance.

Tony Annese is good in D2 but we all saw how that doesn't necessarily translate to being a good FCS coach.

Andy Thompson got his FCS head coaching opportunity and completely blew it. Why would we think he would do any better at Montana?

Ty Gregorak is maybe a possibility but I don't know that he wants to go back to coaching, or even if he would be a good head coach. He is no more proven than coach Kennedy either. Plus he's been out of coaching and recruiting for quite a while.

What other DCs and OCs would there be that we think would be good enough and interested in the job right now?

Just because Kennedy was named as the coach doesn't mean that he's the coach for the next 5 years. I really think he's an interim without the label of interim.

I really don't know how I feel about this, but I do think this is going to only go 1 of 2 ways. He's going to have to perform otherwise this very much could be a one and done type of year for him, I really don't like the timing Hauk chose.

The timing was actually best for the roster though. If he had announced this before the portal window opened we would have seen half the team leave. Maybe more. Now it's too late in the year for players to go somewhere new.

My understanding is when a team loses a coach they ALL have a window to leave, I'm hoping they talked to the team before this to encourage everyone to stay but they are all now able to enter the portal. Hopefully with it being so late it will prevent a mass exodus.

Andy Thompson is a good coordinator. Not sure he was great as the head dude in his short tenure. Gregorak is a used car salesman. Annesse is successful for key reasons which won’t work here and brings both baggage and an attitude that could take us back 15 years.

Should we dip back into the d2 ranks or do you really think these coordinators at the upper level will take a huge pay cut to come down to the FCS?

Thats a lot of words to say “I really don’t know dick about coaching or coaches but I’m just gonna throw some shit at the wall and see if something sticks.”

I like Kennedy but there is no denying that Choate has more experience and probably better connections within Montana. He successfully turned MSU around and built the foundation that won them the championship this season.
Kennedy looks like an excellent hire with experience in quality programs. In fact, his experience is similar to Bobby’s when he was first hired.

When was the last time Gregorak coached? How long did Andy Thompson remain a head coach at a Big Sky Conference school and what was his overall record.
Not sure what that matters. Ty is a good coach, do you think he hasn’t kept up or has somehow forgotten how to coach? Not that it matters, he’s got a good job and I doubt he’d take the pay cut to come back. Andy is also a good coach, I think it’s a proven fact that sac is not a place anybody is going to win consistently but when he gets another shot, which he will, the team that gives it to him is going to be happy with the results.
This was MY shortlist not THE shortlist but any AD worth a shit better have one.

Ty was an excellent defensive coordinator but I am not sure that he knows as much about offense. He would need a solid OC.
