Coach Delaney, are you kidding me?

BULLSH*T!!!!

The correct thing to do is NOT offer your relative a scholarship or any other perk. Use it as a learning/teaching moment about how life isnt fair and at times things suck and dont work out the way you plan.

That money or scholarship could have been used to sway a dominating QB to UM.....we really havent had one since DD and to a way lesser extent Ochs.
Sorry but you idiots that CHOOSE to accept mediocrity need to stfu sit down and get out of the way. I blame you for the demise of Griz Football and for accepting coaches like MD and BH

I feel like this is true. JJ has an unfinished body of work so I'll leave him off the list at this point. Ah Yat and Miller were pretty good QB's and put up big numbers. Edwards won a championship but wasn't what I'd call a dominate QB. Berquiest and Selle were both good game managers and each had pretty good seasons and games but again I wouldn't list them as dominate. DD and Ochs are the two that I would agree with Alpha that were dominate, with DD way out in front. Roper was mostly horrible (didn't like his attitude and body language). Swogger only had the one year but was no way dominate. Dominate to me means the ability to take over games and it would be nice to get another guy somewhere in the DD-Ochs-Miller-Ah Yat range. I was wondering if MD might end up bringing his grandson here. Sounds like the kid maybe should have been more in the walkon category with a chance to earn a scholie based on his work ethic, progression and production.

Just my two cents as a fan. I'm sure there will be 1000 different opinions and posters who disagree with me (hello PR) and that is fine. :fuel:

I think a lot of people will disagree with your use of the word "dominate".

Does the poster mean dominate or dominant :?: There is a big difference you know... BTW: The weak-kneed posters to this thread reinforce the fact that GrizNation has an awful lot of people in serious denial
about the present and future course of Griz athletics. Wakeup and smell the coffee :coffee:

Silvertip, I did mean dominant. I fixed it right after jjohnston caught the error. My fault for not proofreading myself before submitting.

Isn't Ryan Burke also related to MD?

He is but he is legit. Good athlete who completely dominated in the Badlands Bowl and was the best reciver prospect in the state last year. Very deserving of a scholarship.

I don't really have a problem with recruiting all these recievers. You got to recruit the best athletes available and these are kids. You never know how they are going to grow and develop. I'm assuming a few on our roster listed at reciever will be moved to the other side of the ball.

I do think this partial to the grandson is a bit strange...

1) If BH was still here we'd be heading to Missoula for a game this weekend.

THIS!!!!

I thought you were a big Johnny Montana fan Alpha? I was too but I thought you said he was the 2nd best ever at UM?

If this is true he should be fired! You people making excuses for this behavior are what is wrong with our country.

Smells fishy, but give the kid a chance. He may have the intrinsic qualities to be real good. You don't have to be from out of state to be a Griz legend. Natural talent, desire, work ethic, and some good coaching can turn a diamond in the rough into a real gem. Does the name Mariani ring a bell?

Yeah, quite the correlation, there.

Marc Mariani....10 Letters in three sports: three in football, three in basketball, four in tennis, All-State "Class A" WR with 48 receptions for 1,237 yards and 16 TDs in his senior year at Havre Public High School.

Mick Delaney....13 receptions for 203 yards playing for Bozeman hs.

Maybe he decided to give a scholarship to the first kid he tried to recruit who thought he did did a good job coaching last season.

I see your point. At least this way he will have at least one, if perhaps only one, ally on the team. Think about all of the time he saved having to search for the best player! Anyone who would step in and not make the team worse is certainly good enough for a bottom dweller...

RE is one fine roll model and Coach D learned the lesson well. Our new motto: U of M, just one big happy family!

This just in... Reports are that Mick walked up to the Thanksgiving table with a smirk on his face and asked: "Who wants to be on scholarship?"

There ought to be a class that head coaches have to take called "Judgement 101." Pflu apparently lost his job due to his glowing statements relative to JJs character. He should have used good judgment and just let it pass while privately welcoming JJ back to the team.

MD should have just given his grandson $500.00 and not put himself in a position to be critisized. :thumb:

I'm going bald fast. A real head scratcher. We have limited scholarships and Mick plays this card. A preferred walkon maybe but this is??????????????

I agree, big reach. Plus Mariani came as a walk on which this kid is not. Just think if Mariani were a walk on freshman receiver last year and he just found out the coaches unheralded grandson received a book voucher for $500. That perceived slight could cause a few of the walk ons to transfer and we would never know what they could become.

This is a much different story if the kid was being recruited by other schools and was considered a potential college player. From his high school playing experience he is not and therefore if his name weren't Delaney he wouldn't be getting anything. Like I said before, it's bush league and disrespectful to young walk ons and to high school seniors that put in the effort on the field in HS to deserve this recognition.

Thanks for letting me have the leg kid, here's a $500 scholarship. :wtf:

New treatment for Alzheimer's patients

The test patient, when re-oriented to time and place after recovery from anesthesia, reportedly said: "I offered what to whom?"

On a more serious note, the kid could turn out to be incredible. Delaney would then look like a genius. After this season, whatever Mick does will be questioned.
