Coach Delaney, are you kidding me?

Scholarship to grandson (even a partial) is a profoundly bad idea. It sends the message that it's not how you play, it's who you know that counts.

I agree. There are several walk-ons that deserve that over his grandson. It isn't even about the amount it's more about being recognized for being a potential contributor. This is very bush league if true.

In matters of ethics and integrity, there is no acceptable amount...$1 is too much! I hope this is not true.

1) If BH was still here we'd be heading to Missoula for a game this weekend.

2) Can you PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, get rid of that dumb ass "Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2"?????????? Fukkkkkkk that's annoying.

3) Hey bud, whats up?

What if the kid turns out to be one of the all-time greats of Griz football? Then would this have been a mistake? What if he really needed the help and doesn't get it from Gramps and so goes to MSU where he does and then turns into someone who haunts the Griz a few years from now? Is Delaney then an "idiot'?

I don't think that giving a relative a perk is such a bad thing if they obviously deserve it. Coach D is not the first coach to do something like this and won't be the last. However if the recipient doesn't obviously deserve it (and doesn't appear to in this case) then the giver had better be open to ridicule.

If the kid works his ass off and does whatever it takes to see the field over the course of his time here, I'm all for it. If memory serves me correctly...we've had a pretty good track record of MT kids WORKING their way on to the field.....

GO GRIZ

Look at it from Delaney's point of view. He's a lame duck coach, pretty much running the program into the ground and no one above him seems to give a sh*t. Might as well help out his grandson while he still can.

If I understand correctly young Mr. D caught four passes his senior year of high school. It seems pretty unlikely he is some sort of hidden gem of a player. I watched the Cody Hawkins drama in Colorado and it was pretty obvious that his presence on the Buffs was bad for him, bad for his dad and bad for the team. I hope similar drama doesn't develop in Missoula.

One thing is for certain, IF he turns out to be a gem then he will have been very well hidden... I hope he does turn out to be awesome -- just like I hope that for every player wearing a Griz jersey. And I agree, the drama surrounding Cody Hawkins hurt the Buffs. It was painful even for non-fans (like me) to see him in the game when he clearly didn't derserve to be there.

The correct thing to do is NOT offer your relative a scholarship or any other perk. Use it as a learning/teaching moment about how life isnt fair and at times things suck and dont work out the way you plan.

That money or scholarship could have been used to sway a dominating QB to UM.....we really havent had one since DD and to a way lesser extent Ochs.

Sorry but you idiots that CHOOSE to accept mediocrity need to stfu sit down and get out of the way. I blame you for the demise of Griz Football and for accepting coaches like MD and BH

I don't know when to take you serious anymore Alfalpha. You are like the little boy who cried wolf.

Sounds like some of you have never spent time in MD's hometown. If you did, this would not be a surprise at all. I love Butte but it is the nepotism capitol of the world. Here is the best example i have heard of: by local ordinance, all ambulance services in the county must be through one (particular) company. If true, it seems like the local government passed a law to ensure a monopoly for a certain family.

I feel like this is true. JJ has an unfinished body of work so I'll leave him off the list at this point. Ah Yat and Miller were pretty good QB's and put up big numbers. Edwards won a championship but wasn't what I'd call a dominate QB. Berquiest and Selle were both good game managers and each had pretty good seasons and games but again I wouldn't list them as dominate. DD and Ochs are the two that I would agree with Alpha that were dominate, with DD way out in front. Roper was mostly horrible (didn't like his attitude and body language). Swogger only had the one year but was no way dominate. Dominate to me means the ability to take over games and it would be nice to get another guy somewhere in the DD-Ochs-Miller-Ah Yat range. I was wondering if MD might end up bringing his grandson here. Sounds like the kid maybe should have been more in the walkon category with a chance to earn a scholie based on his work ethic, progression and production.

Just my two cents as a fan. I'm sure there will be 1000 different opinions and posters who disagree with me (hello PR) and that is fine. :fuel:

I think a lot of people will disagree with your use of the word "dominate".

Does the poster mean dominate or dominant :?: There is a big difference you know... BTW: The weak-kneed posters to this thread reinforce the fact that GrizNation has an awful lot of people in serious denial
about the present and future course of Griz athletics. Wakeup and smell the coffee :coffee:

You sir are a bad fan and a bandwagon fan. You should hang your head in shame.

I happen to agree with Alpha in this situation. Delaney was given a dream job he did not earn and now he is taken some liberties. Even it is only chump change, to me it still sends a bad message.
Hopefully the kid earns it. I have in many cases seen hidden talent hidden waited because of the system or lack of harmony with coach or due to late developer. It happens every year on every college team. It is bound to happen in the HS system.

If the coach wants me to get more ticked off at him for being in way over his head......... then I watch him offer his medium skilled grandson a job as a player on the Griz?

How to turn the proud program into a bag of unsalted popcorn? Damn. Come on Delaney!

thanks copper. English 101. You forgot to mention I also screwed up waisted vs. waited.

I'm sure MD saw some promise during a back yard game of touch football over the Thanksgiving holiday. Probably juked MD out of his shorts on a short pass in the flat. signed him on the spot.
