Soccer Citowicki leaving for Wazzu?

I would say one of the reasons why Cavallo and Weber turned it down properly due to not being offered a multi-year contract and the state of the roster. 12 current players, three 2026's meaning you have to find 12 players and a huge amount of those 12 need to be starters of a championship level caliber.

Neither of them have the head coaching experience of rebuild a roster of that magnitude. So just a one year contract would be seen as a 'red flag'. Just me surmising I have no proof.
Rebuilding is not the problem but as more time goes on, it will become a problem, 7 months to first game Bingo on the contract length, so if you are looking for a coach with more experience and need him/her to build back up to a championship team but you are only offering 100K and no job security- your not getting an established coach.

1 year contract if true after the program was decimated is going to be a tough ask. How many coaches at UM are on a 1 year contract?

1 year is not outside of the norm, it’s like a probationary period but usually at smaller schools. But going to be a hard sell to get a coach to move here and potentially be unemployed again by December.

1 year contracts are not the norm. Nate Harris agreed to a three-year contract last spring.

Cito's total compensation was $144k a couple years ago. Base salary was $80k in 2024. 2nd highest compensation in Big Sky to Sac State Hc that had been there for 20+ years and just pushed out after last season at $153k.

Jean sent an email saying that the first round of interviews didn’t go as expected and that they will have another candidate on campus late next week. No further details given…
This is 100% true. I’m someone who is very close to this situation. The search continues and there will be someone on campus next week. The administration is working diligently to make the right hire. While I agree that it’s taking entirely too long and they don’t seem to have the same sense of urgency as some of us. I do believe however, that they absolutely have the best interest of the soccer program in mind. I think that they are in a difficult situation as well, meaning lack of finances and resources to offer a new coach, which is really sad after the success of this program. Bottom line, the athletic department needs to figure out how to fix this and quickly. They are being very transparent and honest with those of us that are asking questions. Unfortunately, I just think they’re completely looking at this without much consideration of the current players.

What gets lost in all of this is that these aren’t just roster spots or scholarships they are real young women with lives, routines, academic plans, and athletic careers that are being directly impacted.
Right now, they’re in limbo. They don’t know who their coach will be, what the system will be, whether their roles will change, or even what the long-term direction of the program is. That kind of uncertainty is extremely stressful, especially for student-athletes who already live on tight schedules and high pressure. At this point this University is in jeopardy of losing the remaining players to the portal in May causing unprecedented circumstances.

Not to mention all the head games he played with the girls. Having had a kid in the program that was cut right before he left I absolutely have sour grapes. He played head games with her all year. Unless you were one of 7 players that he loved head games were played with all of them.

At her new school which is about the same level as the Griz were last year she is turning heads. New coach can’t understand why she didn’t get time at Montana.

Overall I guess we should thank him. It could have been a few more years of psychological damage. She is in a great place now and since she is gone we can cheer for her old teammates who she loved.
All of this is 100% true. Good for this former player. All the best.

5 available women’s D1 HC jobs. Michigan is a different beast - but even with the salary, contract, and facility challenges that have been discussed - isn’t Montana the best of the rest for program potential and location for a hungry, energetic young coach?

It looks like Sac State having difficulty filling their open HC spot as well - which is a lot less surprising to me, as Sacramento is not an appealing place to live.

Most definitely!!

As still a potential Griz mom, what kind of head games are we talking about? After all J is still there, my daughter was just emailing with him, and usually they coach similar to the way their head coaches have.

I just think the term “head games” can mean so many different things and sometimes it isn’t accurate in my summation. 🤷🏼‍♀️ (some times is right on of course)

I had a niece who played basketball for a d1 school and I was told for years that her head and associate coach were always “playing head games with her”. It was sad to hear and I believed it but didn’t get specifics.

They played a school near us and we met my brother and his family to watch. When she got minutes her effort level didn’t seem as high as the other girls and she didn’t seem as fit. And she made obvious errors with passing etc.

A couple weeks later, I asked my brother and sister in law what the coach specifically says that are “playing head games”.

Apparently, he would say things like “keep working hard at practice” and “we’re seeing improvements in XYZ” when she’d go in to talk about playing time. She’d just get generic stuff like that. To me that isn’t head games… that’s trying to motivate and encourage yet not being unrealistic promising time, etc.

The few girls that play above her have stats to back why they are playing. And yes their stats are able to be better because they get more time. If if you figure out their stats per minute play it still shows why my niece isn’t playing much because she isn’t very effective.

Coaches aren’t going to say to kids “you’re a practice player.” But it’s a thing. We all know it. But she’s obviously a “practice player” where she is and if she transferred there’s a chance she’d move up on the totem pole based on the other teams roster. My brother sadly would see this as justification that her old coach was wrong… cause he, like many parents, can’t objectively recognize his daughter’s skill level isn’t as good as some others. IMO, he should just be proud of her and her journey cause most don’t even make it to that level.

Not the best timing but let’s get the right coach with the right vision that also has new ideas

Have none of the boosters, program supporters, soccer alumni talked with AD and said enough is enough and find a way to hire the coach you initially wanted. From all the talk on here, seems like AD is splitting hairs, what are the chances that an interim Pres get's rid of the AD staff.
