Soccer Citowicki leaving for Wazzu?

Yes great point and that was Chris's choice, funny now it has so many people up in arms, maybe those up in arms are coaches and parents of players that are now at WSU trying to stir the pot.
Relax! It’s a difficult transition especially after the unethical tactics of Citowicki. Yes, it’s a business and it’s big girl division one soccer so it’s all within the rules. The true character of the man was revealed. But this program is moving on. There will be a new head coach very soon. Landham will be retained. There are 7-8 returning players who may I remind you are division one talents and several others just recently signed. In addition there’s another batch on the way that may not be announced until may. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of players that would be honored to put on the Griz uniform. This program will rebuild. It will have a full roster of capable athletes. There’s some very exciting news coming. Stop with the uninformed nonsense. If you left the program, great, best of luck to each of you and your families. You’re all tremendous players and people.
And for the current and incoming young ladies that will represent Griz soccer. This entire community is behind you all. Let me remind you that you have the best fan base in Women’s soccer. This isn’t a tragedy or an insurmountable task. This is life, staring, you in the face and providing you with a challenge. So I ask the current Griz, what are you going to do about it? Looking forward to finding out.

I’m curious about the unethical tactics? I definitely know that not everyone liked him (oddly people liked him fine until or unless their kid was getting minutes, but that’s the same with most coaches/parents.) I’ve heard people rumble about so many players going to WSU, but that’s allowed obviously since the previous WSU took a handful too. Hearing now that Citowicki wad unethical, it sounds like many think it’s a good thing he’s gone. Happy there is a new coach on the horizon! These ladies still on the roster and newly transferred will rise like the Phoenix’s they are

I love watching these girls play. I’m still going to watch them! They need our support! Any rumors on coaching candidates?

He's been trying to leave for years so it's no surprise and should be no surprise with how he's leaving. How you leave something says a lot about you. I hope it works out for all involved but usually there will be some damage, could be next season here. Could be with players that follow him and it doesn't go how they imagined, could be with the wsu or um players that stay.
How you leave says everything about you. Well said.

If you profess to truly care about these young ladies, then you take the time to have a discussion with every one of them. You leave no doubt or uncertainty or confusion. You don’t hide and ignore calls and messsges. He left at least 13 young women with a very bad taste in their mouth. Furthermore, he cut five players before he left that all would’ve loved to stay. He’s entitled to handle the situation however he sees fit. He’s also entitled to take whatever players are willing to go. It’s simply isn’t about that it happened. It’s about how it happened.

It is my understanding that the girls that stayed are committed and I don't know that many if any wanted to go. I am pretty sure they are conditioning and lifting on their own. They are having Captains practices and are proud to be Griz. Rebuilding will be a task that I am sure they are ALL up for.
Correct

What's the exciting news you talk about, any hints, feel like any good news is a win at this time.

Not to mention all the head games he played with the girls. Having had a kid in the program that was cut right before he left I absolutely have sour grapes. He played head games with her all year. Unless you were one of 7 players that he loved head games were played with all of them.

At her new school which is about the same level as the Griz were last year she is turning heads. New coach can’t understand why she didn’t get time at Montana.

Overall I guess we should thank him. It could have been a few more years of psychological damage. She is in a great place now and since she is gone we can cheer for her old teammates who she loved.

I really appreciate... value the tone and content of this post, Speakfactsonly! Regardless of the uncertainties of D1 collegiate athletics, the disparity between the "major" sports and the "minor" team sports (ummm. GrizSOC, GrizSB, and GrizVB at UM) I respect your focus on how Montana fans support especially soccer, but the other two minor team sports as well. I include the other two sports out of similar concerns/focus. It's regrettable that the former coach departed in a questionable manner after elevating the program (if that's true... I don't know). Nonetheless, Montana fans of all sports usually respond in ways that make this community pretty special. There's ample proof: These sports at Montana FAR outstrip the rest of the Big Sky team fan-bases in attendance and fan support. Work must continue on facilities development AND coach salaries, I recognize but this is a stable support community. I look forward to how these teams continue to remain competitive as mid-major D1 programs. I have no doubt that this community will continue to support the GrizSOC actively this year.

This. 100 percent this. I will always support this team through the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Another week, no coach? Anyone know for sure where the process is? Search reset back to zoom interviews?
Good question, 1. The just hired a football coach with no problem. Find the money either from coach Chris buyout, donors/boosters or within the department to hire the coach you initially wanted.

Cavallo and Weber turned the job down, why, it will come out eventually.

Or you can just tell us why if you know....

It’s economics, who wants to move to a place where their pay doesn’t go far?! $100k annually before takes, insurance, TIAA, etc. If housing was included maybe you could convince a coach to come. You look at Zillow and the prices in Missoula are nuts for what you get.

Also the new HC has to rebuild a program with meager resources, the soccer facilities are fine for a city program but lots of D2/D3 programs have better stuff than us. Just saw on the news about some tiny D2 school in N Georgia getting soccer upgrades and they’ll have better field facilities than us.

Prior to Chris leaving facilities had another inspector come through and noted all the code violations in the locker room building.

The new president needs to clean house and bring in a new AD and front office staff that’s motivated.

One last thing I can’t fault Chris for leaving he was making less than $70k/yr, trying to raise a family in a town that costs money. Also he was promised lots of stuff by the athletic leadership so he held up his end of the bargain and won numerous titles / accolades for UM and the best the school could do during his negotiations was offer to raise his stipend from $4800 to $6k on par with Travis and Bobby. No pay increase and a gentleman’s agreement for future facility upgrades.

I would say one of the reasons why Cavallo and Weber turned it down properly due to not being offered a multi-year contract and the state of the roster. 12 current players, three 2026's meaning you have to find 12 players and a huge amount of those 12 need to be starters of a championship level caliber.

Neither of them have the head coaching experience of rebuild a roster of that magnitude. So just a one year contract would be seen as a 'red flag'. Just me surmising I have no proof.

Give the job to J. Beyond frustrating, can someone in this group put any pressure on the AD, so what happens when the net round of candidates says no.
