If he thinks the cat job is a stepping stone to bigger and better...wow, talk about a lack of judgment.

Actually, not so far-fetched as you seem to think...

Tell us the route to bigger and better. Wasn't hired at UM for HC job. Stayed on with Stitt. Tension for obvious reasons. Stitt coached around him. Ty goes to state. State does not have - and will not produce a defense better than the Griz. Helps Ty how?

MSU is typically strong defensively. Despite being awful on Defense for the past two years, defense has been the strength and tradition at MSU. Choate is a defensive minded coach. Getting TG was a HUGE get for MSU. You are stupid to think that MSU can't put up a nasty defense in the future.

Bookmarked. :)

Having more success at football doesn't make you more "montana". The kids who play at Alabama are good at football and they aren't from Montana. One would assume that the football team that supports the most Montana kids would definitely be the "Montana" school. Of course this train of thought is based in reality, and doesn't reflect the fanaticism and emotions of crazy fans. :thumb:

Perhaps we can stipulate that you can keep thinking Bozeman State is the "Montana School", and everyone else (and I do mean everyone) with a working brain can keep thinking that The University of Montana is the "Montana School." It's a very silly debate otherwise.

I choose to think the program that continues to place the state of montana on the map by being the flagship of our great state by having multiple appearances on espn and deep playoff runs not to mention ncaa tourny appearance is the correct rep for our state!
Right. Nothing to do with the crumbling academics of your university. ;) ;)

Last I checked, this is a football forum. I heard the same kind of comments from cat fans in the stands after the thumping in Bozeman - claiming academic superiority. If you want to discuss academics, please choose the scholastic forum. :thumb:

Although I'll probably start by discussing our Rhodes scholar finalist.......yes acedemia smack talk on a football board! :thumb:

It was the hardest decision of his life! He thought about it for a week. He thinks he might come back and be the head coach at UM after Stitt leaves. If he is really this dumb I'm glad he's gone.

Doesn't the budget thing carry over to all parts of the university, including athletics? I thought I read somewhere that football would not be immune to the cuts.

Is anyone going to comment if the Stitt playbook is now in the hands of the cants?
The defensive playbook? Hopefully UM is like all the FBS schools that have the playbooks on ipads. Can track everything that way and wipe them when a player leaves.

You almost spelled "academia" correctly. It is probably wise to spell correctly when you are attempting to talk smack regarding academics.

If you're UM, the state doesn't subsidize the majority of athletics. If you're MSU, the state basically has to pay for almost all athletic operations. But  you're the "Montana school" Holy shit, you guys are precious sometimes.

That's bull and you know it. The state pays no more for MSU athletics than it does at UM.

Nope. Sorry to blow up your world like this, but you are a fan of a state-run, involuntarily funded charity. UM gets some, too. But the majority of the athletic department can run without robbing the taxpayers. Not the case with State College. Sorry, lil' bro.

The in-state argument is such bullshit.....I am all for Montana kids playing, but not at the expense of better non-Montana kids....so many people get caught up in the number of Montana kids.....but it should be more about quality than quantity....I even feel that many really over estimate the abilities of Montana kids....and this doesn't mean there are not Montana kids that can play FCS football.....just not as many as people want to believe....

Agreed. It's about finding the best possible players no matter where they're from.

Although there is talent in Montana and it should be a big priority to sign that talent. Start in Montana and work your way out. I think having (talented) Montana recruits does help the program overall. Look at the best Griz teams - usually had players from MT who were key to those teams success.

The talent of MT HS football is exponentially better now than it was 15-20 years ago. It's a mistake to underestimate the talent in our own backyard. Just don't sign MT kids to fill some quota, sign them because they will contribute.

Bingo!

This is the most ignorant and naive argument there is when it comes to Cat/Griz football.

I hate to see Ty go, especially to the rival bobcats!

Ty was well liked and respected by his players, and in my opinion, Griz are losing a very good coach. I have no inside information, but have to speculate, like others, that he and Coach Stitt did not get along. It will be so strange to see Gregorak on the bobcat sideline.

This does not bode well for the Griz. Coach Stitt drops a notch in my opinion, but we still have to give Stitt a chance to see what he can do with his own new DC, and what kind of team he can produce over a 3 year coaching period. Coach Stitt still deserves a chance to prove that his system can produce a championship team at this level.

I am beginning to think he may be in over his head. I hope I am wrong.

2011 Griz D ranked: 26th
2012 Griz D ranked: 66th

2015 Griz D ranked: 57th

The highest ranking was breske's last year, right?

Yup

That data would suggest that the D's reputation has been better than actual results. I guess you'd say they were good, but not that good. One might conclude that there is room for improvement, and the key to improvement is the new DC.

FWIW - Everyone at Grizzly athletics is stunned. "Nobody can believe he went over to the dark side."

I suspect coach Gregorak concluded he was done at UM and took his skills and experience to the one place they are most valuable, Bozeman. In any other business this is absolutely common (I don't want to use the word "predictable" wink wink) behavior.

Even though Gregorak's job now is to make the Cats defense better, does anyone think he'll secretly be happy when the Griz beat State?
