Central Ty Gregorak discussion thread

This year the defense was good at adjustments. In the previous couple of years, not so much.

Cats defense last year had coaches who were Cats through and through, didn't seem to help much.

Jody Owens
Michael Rider
Kane Ioane

I feel like I'm missing someone on defense.

Well, he should know how to game plan against us.

Like he game planned against Poly.....for YEARS?

I remember the thread like it was yesterday on how all but two posters agreed Ty's defense on the last series in the Poly game cost us the game when Ty's called defense failed to protect the sideline. I suspected then Ty was done. And I agree with the sentiment here that our defenses' success in the last 3 years was due to the athletes, not the schemes. Not to mention how many times our defense gave up big plays because the defensive call was so late in coming in the players were looking at each other and talking instead of watching the snap.

Tell us the route to bigger and better. Wasn't hired at UM for HC job. Stayed on with Stitt. Tension for obvious reasons. Stitt coached around him. Ty goes to state. State does not have - and will not produce a defense better than the Griz. Helps Ty how?

If Ty can muster up any type of defense it will be a positive for him. Now look whom Choate has coached with and the ties he has that TG may be able to take advantage of. And the big one, being DC for a team with Stitt's offensive philosophy will never look great for a resume, especially with an inexperienced group of players returning. Stitt's offense puts more pressure on the defense than what Choate will do in Bozo. I am not saying it will work that way for TG...but I do see some definite reasons for the move...also that him and Stitt did not see eye-to-eye and TG was expendable as far as Stitt was concerned...

I see the connections piece, and know that is the key component to jobs in the fraternity...I'm not so sure Ty can get better tangible results or overall exposure with the cats. While connections matter....winning does as well...perhaps more. Ty could win in Missoula...not so sure about bozeman.

which defensive coordinator looks better...the guy from a team that loses every game 9-6 or wins every game 49-48....climbing the ladder as a coordinator isn't so much about winning...it is about performance and connections...this is an extreme example...and of course winning does matter to a point....but the performance of your unit on the field is bigger...

Not many 9-6 games in the Big Sky...I bet majority of coordinators on both sides of the ball for Jax St., SHSU, Richmond, NDSU are getting exposure and interest. But, I do get your point. You like Ty's defenses?

Some are posting on here as if Stitt let Ty go. Is that assumption? Or fact ?

Not sure anyone said that....what people are saying is that things between the 2 wasn't exactly lovey-dovey....TG was looking to move on....Stitt was OK with having him move on...

One of the many rumors floating was that 3-4 weeks before the end of the season Stitt and Ty had a come to Jesus meeting and Ty was told WHAT he was going to do and was told by others (including Stitt) How it was going to be done including the new looks the D had their last few games. Stitt did not take well Tys hissy fit when his white board wash cleaned at PSU. That was the beginning of the end...............

To add to this, he had perhaps the greatest LB corps. in team history, two of the best DE's we've ever had, the talent was abundant, and I do not expect that to stop.

The ONLY reason this team had a respectable season is because of the defense. We lost one of the better recruiters and motivators in The Big Sky. Stitt struck out and Choates hit a home run. Changing of the guard...yes! Nobody that has been Griz through and through is left. Congrats to Haslam and co for cutting all "tyes" to the program. We are now coached by a division II staff.

You are assuming that TG was the guy developing the weekly game plan....have heard different...part of the reason he left....

Actually they drove me nuts....just throwing out some reason's why the MSU move might not be bad for him....but he still has to produce on the field....

Me too. Probably best for all parties. Stitt needed to move beyond, and ty just needed a move. Will test some players' loyalty and emotions for sure. Stitt needs to lead team effectively right now.

Never met the man, but his statement that "whenever, maybe, Bob Stitt moves on, I'll be the next guy, " is beyond belief. Does he really believe that? He learned NOTHING about the Griz-Cat thing. NOTHING. He burned his bridges. :protesst: :dope:

My thoughts exactly. There is now an absolutely 0% chance he's our next head coach, not sure how he can't see that

Too bad for the Griz, in many ways. My guess is that the Griz D will not be as good next season.

Bold prediction considering the amount of starters we lost.
