Central Ty Gregorak discussion thread

This is a huge loss. He is a very classy guy and has huge connections within the state of Montana. We are going to get killed in recruiting. This is just another sign of our program heading in the wrong direction!

 Another sign? There are no other signs...Let's review: First year coach, new starting qb...to 3rd string qb, FCS playoffs and 1st round win, massive facility upgrade(s), superb recruiting class brewing, head coach ripping off band aids to get system in place and personnel upgraded.

Yep, lots of signs.

The ONLY reason this team had a respectable season is because of the defense. We lost one of the better recruiters and motivators in The Big Sky. Stitt struck out and Choates hit a home run. Changing of the guard...yes! Nobody that has been Griz through and through is left. Congrats to Haslam and co for cutting all "tyes" to the program. We are now coached by a division II staff.

Not really read any of the comments in this thread so I can state my own unbiased opinion. I think anyone with even a slight knowledge of the Griz behind the scenes knew that TG was not returning next year. There was conflict behind the scenes, and we saw Stitt throw the defense under the bus in interviews a couple of times.

I understand though how Stitt would want his own guy in there, almost any coach would so I've got no problem with that. If Stitt can pick coaches as good as he recruits than we're good there also.

As far as TG goes though, this is a major stab in the back. Knowing what the Cat-Griz rivalry means I'm shocked he would do this. And to think he believes it will help him get the main gig back here, is absolutely flawed thinking. I'm wondering what opportunities there were in FBS? I would have thought perhaps a position coach with a FBS school would have been the better choice. Guess not......I bet his players are feeling a bit betrayed but also pissed as hell. I am.

Yeah I think Legi stays or moves up to FBS. Cats have a DL coach hired already in Hout. Anyways, I will never mention his name again. He is like Voldemort going to that "other school" in the state. I mean get moving for a better job, but to move to the rival and abandon some of those defensive players that is going to hurt. Give our defensive studs a reason to show Coach Voldemort what he is missing. I think Semore would do an awesome job. He is a coach that believes in pressure and man coverage.

Agree...he won't be welcome as far as I am concerned. I don't think he will produce results at state. His resume will not even get through the first screen should Stitt depart at some point. He should have worked to get to FBS linebacker coach somewhere.

Nobody that has been Griz through and through is left. Congrats to Haslam and co for cutting all "tyes" to the program. We are now coached by a division II staff.

Guess you forgot about guys who actually played for the Griz like Germer, Green and Selle. BTW Ty didn't. Last DII staff we had with some "through and through Griz" won a title.

This is not the end of civilization as we know it. We weathered Bobbi ball, we weathered Pflu and Mick, and we will weather this. Our much bigger threat is trying to weather Royce and the BOR.

Just a friendly reminder that Joe Glenn was a DII coach before coming to Montana.

Our defense was average at best..

This year at times but what about the prior two years?

We were ranked 39th last year and 56 the year before
I would rather see where we rank amongst teams from "power" FCS conferences...

given the time of possession with stitts offense, I would say the griz defense carried this team for the most of the season,,,three and outs equal great field position too, along with with plus - turnover margin....also a real players coach.......all this to say tg is a pretty darn good coach, if you don't believe that, then you be much more objective in my view.....go griz !

Semore was only on Stitt's staff at Mines for 1 year, before that he was an assistant at Oklahoma St. and Tulsa. This is readily available information. Not hard to look up.

Not true. Griz still have germer, green, selle, the wide receivers coach who was a player when Hauck was here (having a brain fart with his name). In other words, you are wrong about having no coaches that are Griz through and through

I gotta believe there was strife between the two coaches...

Ty was good at halftime adjustments...

But for what ever reason the Griz D was terrible on the first drive of the game
&
Gave up way too many 3rd and longs... may too many!

Yep, ferriter. Thanks, that was driving me nuts.

Maybe our new DC will be better. Maybe he will have recruiting connections not previously available. If TG considered the cats, we do not want him here.

:He going to be great when he gets the athletes that he wants, has great credentials, was at School of Mines, Golden Colorado, a powerhouse program

Great job to all those UM grads on Twitter today.

Actually, not so far-fetched as you seem to think...

Tell us the route to bigger and better. Wasn't hired at UM for HC job. Stayed on with Stitt. Tension for obvious reasons. Stitt coached around him. Ty goes to state. State does not have - and will not produce a defense better than the Griz. Helps Ty how?

If Ty can muster up any type of defense it will be a positive for him. Now look whom Choate has coached with and the ties he has that TG may be able to take advantage of. And the big one, being DC for a team with Stitt's offensive philosophy will never look great for a resume, especially with an inexperienced group of players returning. Stitt's offense puts more pressure on the defense than what Choate will do in Bozo. I am not saying it will work that way for TG...but I do see some definite reasons for the move...also that him and Stitt did not see eye-to-eye and TG was expendable as far as Stitt was concerned...

I see the connections piece, and know that is the key component to jobs in the fraternity...I'm not so sure Ty can get better tangible results or overall exposure with the cats. While connections matter....winning does as well...perhaps more. Ty could win in Missoula...not so sure about bozeman.

which defensive coordinator looks better...the guy from a team that loses every game 9-6 or wins every game 49-48....climbing the ladder as a coordinator isn't so much about winning...it is about performance and connections...this is an extreme example...and of course winning does matter to a point....but the performance of your unit on the field is bigger...
