Has he elevated the program? Absolutely he has, but that does not mean he has the dogs on his team to take down the cats in Bozeman. And since many of you are predicting ISU to win in Bozeman, that must mean you think ISU is gonna beat the Griz in Poky then right? ISU has a zero percent chance of beating the cats in Bozeman, let alone keeping it within 2 scores. Bank it.

It's just an opinion. I think they certainly could lose all four of them but I am willing to bet that they will lose no more than two of the four. I think they are 50/50 with all of those games. Statistically speaking it would be odd to lose all four. They could lose a game outside of those four as well but I don't believe they will. Hence I don't think their record will be worse than 9-3.

t debacle in Cheney, but I do not know how ISU did in the portal. If Coach Hawkins had a strong portal class along with some up and comers from high school he's recruited since becoming HC three years ago, I would say look out--Idaho State could be the surprise sleeper in The Big Sky this year !!!
My belief is that he is a talented coach who has been developing kids that are coming into their upper class. I don't pretend to know all their Jimmys and Joes, I just have a lot of faith in Hawkins with the X's and O's, and the development there. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm quite literally just going off of my personal eye test watching them play.
To answer your question, though, I do think they could take a win off of either the Griz or the Cats. They do make me nervous. Their quick hitting passes on slants and routes over the shallow middle are absolutely things I would use to counter the aggressive 335 stack from the Griz. I have concerns there, yes, about the Griz playing them. We only escaped by 8 points last time, and that was our team that made the run to the natty.
You're very right that they need to figure out the defensive side of the ball. I'd read that Hawkins thinks the new coaching experience for 2025 will be big. Last year they had like 10 years of D1 coaching experience on the staff, this year it is 30 years. That's a big jump. They poached Grant Duff from Weber to be their new DC, and it seems like he has been very effective with the units he coaches.
I may well be wrong, and I genuinely mean it when I say that I know your knowledge of the Big Sky is greater than mine. I don't say that to butter you up, but to acknowledge that I'm going by feel here.

Agree with your SDSU take here... If Cats play SDSU later in the season, it would be a different story, but with it the 2nd game of the year I would take MSU. I am exited about a new QB, and seeing what a true Run/Pass offense can do. Don't sleep on Wilson, as I think he will be very good in this offense.

ISU could be very good this year. They took our top defensive coach and three of our top four defensive ends. Look for the Bengals to be a much improved defense. They already had some good offensive pieces. I don't think they will contend for the top, but they will win some games against top teams.
How can anyone bash the ISU defense from last year and think they won't improve, yet think the Grizzly's terrible defense will improve???
Here is why I think ISU makes the playoffs.
1. Good coaching staff that keeps improving each year.
2. Return the bulk of their team that can put up a lot of points.
3. Too many question marks for other BSC teams.
(a) will montana stick with a QB and can defense be of a championship quality
(b) how big of loss is Tommy in Bozeman. Will the offense be as good without the threat of Tommy in the Backfield? Can they sustain the same effectiveness running the ball.
(c) will NAU being a great team ever come to fruition? Every year we hear how great they will be.
(d) lots of turnover in IDAHO how good will the Vandals be?
(e) will sac st gel with all the hired guns? will their petition to move up be denied? How will that effect the Dreamers in the capital city?
(f) did davis lose too much talent off the offense last year? Will they improve on the defense and rebuild offense?
(g) ewu sucks, Noco sucks PSU sucks
Question really is why not ISU to finish in top 4 of BSC and snag a playoff bid??

Mellott was good for at least four extra wins for the cats last year. He was that good. They will have a down year - win a lot of home games, make the playoffs, win their one home playoff game and lose in the second round. Still pretty damn good considering where they have been sitting for most of my life.
This is really cute. The last few years the narrative was how Tommy was a rb playing qb and that he just wasn't that good. Now that he's gone the question becomes how the bobcats will suck without him.

It’s just my opinion. Could be wrong, but I don’t think so. And he was objectively never a polished passer…but that didn’t mean he wasn’t incredibly valuable. A generational talent at the most important position.
I like how you're still making things up to get mad at re: Tommy.
He was a running back playing QB until this last season, and he's still not a very good pure passer. He's also maybe the best athlete your school has ever put out. No one has ever disputed that.

Also, the cats are not nearly as scary if they abandon the +1 QB run game. If you try to force standard pass concepts against us in the Brawl, it's gonna look exactly like it did in 2021.
I'm not mad about anything. I think it's funny how the narrative changes. I guess we'll see if the huge amount of starters returning will just be a bunch of schmucks without Tommy. I'm on the record here predicting they will probably lose two to three games this year. I also think that will be enough to win the BSC.
I cannot imagine the bobcats will abandon the +1 run game. Coach Vigan seems to like it, their QBs seem to be good at it and their lineman are schemed up for it. But you may be right.
The narrative never changed, man. You guys just can't stand that we're not over here in Griz nation glazing him as much as you think we should be.
He is the guy that made your team scary over the last 4 years in a way that I don't think I've seen since Armanti Edwards on his own made App State so scary back in the 2000's. I don't think it's needless hating for a Griz fan to suggest that losing by far the most impactful and important offensive player in your school's history that literally single handedly saved your season in 2021 might have a big impact.
