Cats regular season predictions

Re: the Tommy argument.

NDSU kept losing what was thought to be generational QBs and then had another in the hopper. MSU's been building their program in similar fashion and will rely upon top notch defense and a diverse running game once again (much like NDSU does). They can afford to have a QB grow into the role I'd bet and the dropoff probably won't be that noticeable... assuming team health stays intact generally.
I think they can still be successful with this approach, but I struggle to believe they can find anyone to match what Tommy brought. He added so many elements that I would assume they would be happy for someone to step in and offer 75% of what Tommy did.

I've been a griz fan far longer than you. I'm just not delusional.

I'm sick of seeing this cats predictions thread keep popping up at the top, because who really gives a flying fawk, but here's my cats prediction: at least one player will become a deadbeat dad from this years team, the kid will be raised by a great single mother and will become a stud, and will become a GRIZ when the time comes. Its just what happens, apparently! BOOM. #GOGRIZ

Thanks for pushing it to the top Nick.

I'd like to point out I've done this for every team in the Big Sky so far. NAU is next week. You gonna have a problem with that?

I’m excited for that one too. I’m planning a couple trips up there. My son goes there, so try to make a game or 2 a year. Yes I wear my Griz gear! Last year went to Weber game.

NDSU has been developing and producing top-talent QBs that have made it in the NFL for nearly 2 decades now.

Bozeman has no history of developing top-talent QBs, and a guy who was an amazing freak athlete, but who couldn't even sniff a practice squad as a passer in the NFL isn't suddenly going to change that, IMO.

We’ll see - that’s for sure. As a Griz fan I hope you’re right haha

NDSU has structural elements from their DII championships, and now FCS championships, the Cats will never have. With that said, I still think the Cats will have a good, not great, year. I predict a 9-3 finish.

How can anyone bash the ISU defense from last year and think they won't improve, yet think the Grizzly's terrible defense will improve???

Question really is why not ISU to finish in top 4 of BSC and snag a playoff bid??
30+ years of futility and mediocrity versus 30+ years of success is why ISU will suck and the Griz will be much improved.

I absolutely see the point there and the logic in that. I understand why they put him back there, and they clearly had a lot of success with that. There were also limitations that were created for the offense with him back there, especially prior to 2024.
State HAD to have the ball in his hands every offensive down...100% of the snaps.

That's how important he was and that's why he played QB.

Alternative was center...he may have been an All American there as well.

Edit -- Looks like there is a break on the ability for imgur to pull photos? Not totally sure. I did it the way I did it before and got a message saying that "image cannot be loaded from the passed link. I did it the other way, and that link isn't working either.

If you want to check out the pics, here is the imgur link until it works!
Hoops did end up shooting over some vacation pictures to share, so uploading them here.

ISU has 111 wins and 241 losses over the last 33 years for a 32% winning percentage. If this doesn't scream 30+ years of futility, I don't know what does.

"ISU, where good coaches go to die".

"Brian McNeely took up as head coach after Hall. He finished with a record of 21–34 (.382).

Tom Walsh was the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Raiders of the National Football League (NFL) before he started his career in Idaho State. He totaled 6–16 (.261) during his two-season stay with Idaho State.

Larry Lewis took over after Walsh, and he remained head coach for 8 seasons. In 2002, he and the Bengals were tri-Big Sky Champions, sharing the champion title with Montana and Montana State. However, Idaho State was passed up for the playoffs in favor of the other two. Lewis holds a record of 40–49 (.449) with the Bengals.

John Zamberlin was head coach at Central Washington before he went to Idaho State. He won four conference championships as head coach of Central Washington. Zamberlain's contract was originally going to end in 2009, but Idaho State extended the contract by two seasons. The choice was very controversial among students due to the team's lack of success. He averaged 1.5 wins per season, and he ended his career 6–39 (.133), the second-lowest winning percentage in program history. He was later a linebackers coach for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL from 2012 to 2013.

Mike Kramer was previously head coach at both Eastern Washington and Montana State, winning one conference title with Eastern Washington and three with Montana State. His most successful season came with the 2014 Bengals, who had a record of 8-4 and finished the season ranked 25th in the FCS, but the team did not make the playoffs. His total record was 18–50 (.265).

In 2017, Kramer resigned as head coach, and Idaho State promoted wide receivers coach Rob Phenicie to head coach the same day. After five seasons with a cumulative record of 16–35 (.314), Phenicie was fired on November 20, 2021.

On December 10, 2021, former California special teams coordinator Charlie Ragle was hired to be the Bengals' head coach. On November 28, 2022, less than a year after being hired, Ragle left the Bengals after his first season, accumulating only one win. He currently holds the lowest win percentage in program history (.091).

After Ragle's departure, Idaho State hired Cody Hawkins, the offensive coordinator for two seasons at UC Davis. Hawkins quickly grew popular among the student body at Idaho State earning his nickname "Daddy Hawkins." Hawkins ended his inaugural season with a 3-8 record. The most notable win in the season being against Eastern Washington dubbed the "Minidome Miracle" after coming back from a 27 point deficit late in the third quarter to win the game 42-41."
