Has little to do with run vs pass, but the plays being called. Especially on defense (prevent). Baldwin has essentially stated that he coached not to lose rather than continue what we had been doing all game.AZGrizFan said:Screamin_Eagle174 said:Baldwin took his foot off the gas vs. the Griz.
He learned his lesson.
After the Eagles scored to go up 42-17 here's how the game went:
Griz: Pass, pass, run punt
EWU: Run, run, pass, punt
Griz: Run, pass, pass, run, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass (TD)
EWU: Run, pass (VA scrambled), pass, punt
Griz: Run, pass (JJ scrambled), pass (TD)
EWU: Pass, pass, pass, run, pass (INT)
Griz: Pass, pass, pass, missed FG
EWU: pass, pass, run, pass, sack, punt
Griz: pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass (TD)
I count 4 running plays and 11 passing plays...that's a HIGHER ratio than during the first three quarters, since for the game EWU attempted 48 passes and rushed 28 times.
Spin it how you want...I do find it comical though, that the same Beagles fans who come on here and INSIST that they figured out SHSU's offense last year and that's why they almost came back and beat them in the playoffs come on here and INSIST that the only reason the Griz almost came back was because "Baldwin took his foot off the gas".
Can't have it both ways, fellas.

I'm beginning to think Baldwin makes as many excuses as Screamin. Just man up and admit you we're getting your ass kicked and were fortunate to hang onto the W.

We were getting our asses kicked and were fortunate to win the game. Same with last year with the onside kick and late score. I guess you could say the same about 2010 while we're at it.
You could make the same case for EWU in 2004 (Blocked FG), 2007 (Bagley catch on 4th down), and 2009 (Very questionable penalties against EWU). Throw 2011 in there, too, had Mitchell not thrown that pick on the 1 YL, or the one late in the game that we would have gone up on had we scored.
It doesn't really matter. The fact remains that this match-up is almost always a close game in recent years. At the end if the day, a close L is still a L.

Yeah, I'm sure you would know better than the coach calling the plays on whether or not he went conservative. :roll:stubbins said:Screamin_Eagle174 said:Has little to do with run vs pass, but the plays being called. Well that ends it....Baldwin said it. Eagles would've won by 56 points had they let up...
Someone ought to let him know he sounds stooooopid...
The prevent defense and short check down passes WERE conservative. Just man up and admit the Griz were getting rolled and were fortunate we called off the dogs.EverettGriz said:And yet, the okay calling wasn't conservative as AZ clearly points out....

Riiiggghhhhttt..... So conservative that nothing changed after the start of the 3rd quarter. The Griz came out swinging and had the upper hand. What "good" team allows 25 points and being threatened to lose keeps the play calling conservative? Go away. You're not fooling anyone over here. You're the only one that is believing all this :dead:Screamin_Eagle174 said:The prevent defense and short check down passes WERE conservative. http://bobcatnation.com/node/614" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;"I was mad at myself at Montana. I didn’t like how I coached in the fourth quarter, and I vowed that I wouldn’t do it again,” EWU head coach Beau Baldwin said. “We didn’t do it at Idaho State, and we didn’t do that today. We still looked at the clock late and burned some time, but I was not going to change my play calling. I wanted to learn from Montana. It is just an attitude. It ends up being an attitude for our guys that we are going to keep the pedal to the metal.”
That would contradict logic... why would you play conservative when trailing big? Clearly Baldwin didn't think the Griz could come back from 25 down while salting the game away, and he was almost wrong. Credit the Griz for taking advantage and not giving up, but to think that EWU's play calling wasn't conservative in the 4th quarter is to bury your head in the sand.grizfnz said:Let's use SE logic, the only reason EWU won in missoula is because UM coaches managed the game for 3 quarters before putting their foot on the gas pedal in the 4th.
