JPunch, I have yet to see a blue and gold MSEuliss shirt that say , "In Caleb we Trust." I remember only too well there were tons of bob fans and boosters ready to oust Ash in his first few years as MSEuliss head coach and ow they are ready to beatify him.
It happens at UM just as well. I think that says a lot about the expectations at both schools. I didn't hear too many great things about your coach this year, yet he has managed to bring in some out of state studs that will no doubt be excellent talents at UM.
DeNarius is the quarterback. He's the star. People love him and look up to him. That's usually the roll of a quarterback, isn't it? I'm glad you have an opinion about who was more important to the team. Lots of Griz fans seem to have many opinions on how things go on in Bozeman. The truth of the matter is that there were many an important player on the defense this season that helped cover up an offensive line that was patched together and finally exposed in the playoffs. The Defense finally got back to where we expect them to be - dominant.
Please don't be jealous of DeNarius. I know it is hurtful to not have a star player at quarterback. Trust me. I've lived through it for all but two 4-year stints with Lulay and McGhee. Of course when DeNarius leaves after four excellent years it will be tough to replace him. He's a once in a 20 year player. He's a unique talent and we are lucky we got him. But to say that all of MSU's success rests on his shoulders and that the program will fall apart when he leaves is ludicrous. The Griz were incredibly successful with average talent at QB for a number of years. John Edwards wasn't a talent like DeNarius, but damnit, that guy knew how to win. From then until the current Grizzly malaise, we haven't seen a top-notch Griz quarterback other than JJ. They have been good, game managing QBs who had other amazing talent to help them win, as is customary with team sports.
So, your prediction may come true. It may not. But Cat success isn't all about DeNarius. There are a significant number of other excellent players on that roster who will be there to replace him when the time comes. Maybe you've heard of a few of them. Tanner Roderick, your buddy who everyone was certain was coming to UM. Or Dakota Prukop, a highly rated talent who will compete with the aforementioned and Jake Bleskin. Life will go on in Bozeman and we will find our talent with the staff we have now.
So, who's going to be the starter for the Griz this year? I was really worried after the Dickenson years that the Griz would fall back into being the Griz we knew and loved in the 1980s, but that didn't happen. They got bigger and better. If it can happen in Missoula, it can happen in Bozeman.
