Cats buyout game vs NDSU

Cringer if you don't think college football is about the money in this day and age you are totally naive. I suggest you have a talk with your AD. I bet he spends 95 % of his time on budgets and finances. Why do you think there is mass movement between conference the last couple of years and FCS schools moving to FBS? Do you think it's because these schools want to play different teams? It's all about the money!

Like I said,I am deeply disappointed that we are not playing this game. The bison have great fans other than the whiners that are on here. I too enjoyed it when they came here for the playoff game a couple of years ago. I was looking forward to going to the game in Fargo. I wish they were in the BSC along with SDSU and SD. On the other hand I don't know all the reasons why we bought out the contract. I am not going to be critical of this move when I don't have the facts.

Calling me naive and claiming not to know the reasons this game was bought out is hysterical. If the bottom line, which I am fully aware matters a great deal, will differ so greatly between going to SMU and Fargo that it just propels your budget from the red to the black I stand corrected. I am starting to feel sorry for App State as traveling to Missoula will clearly put them in the poor house.

My contingencies remain:
1. This oozes of the stuff Cat fans like to chide UM over.
2. Financial reasons are not the sole motivator of your Athletic Department (No I can't prove this).
3. Your budget would have been just fine going to NDSU.
4. A win at SMU is the only way to fully justify this move.


I am sorry for your disappointment in not going to Fargo, but not understanding NDSU fan's disappointment is far more naive than me being disillusioned with the business end of sports. I can hear Coach Ash now, "Fellas, Fellas, we know you thought this program was about playing football, but there are budgets to be considered. Look at it this way, the beatdown we get at SMU will pay far more than the beatdown NDSU would have delivered. Go Cats!"

I feel for your players and your players alone. As a player, this is a slap in the face.

We really couldnt care a less if we play montana schools. We care about reneging on a deal to play us in Fargo. You have bailed twice now. We honored our deal and went to Bozeman and played u guys. It's an honor and respect deal. As of two days ago we here in North Dakota thought Montana State would be the last team on the planet aside from the Griz to renege on a promise. It's absolutely embarrassing to think we used to hold the cats in high regard. You keep trying to come up with excuse after excuse but the fact remains that u are scared to get beat.

I can't imagine any scenario where UM backs out of a game with the defending National Champion. These are the type of games that separate the top FCS programs from the junk.

If you consider your program to be near the top of the FCS, you can't pass on the opportunity to knock off the defending champs in their house.

Question for cat fans - What would be more valuable to your program?

A. A win on the road against the defending national champs, in a hostile environment. One of the biggest wins in program history. And a win that would get everybody's attention (esp. recruits, booster$, and fans).

Or

B. Go to SMU, lose (badly I'm guessing, SMU is a good), shake some hands for your "Texas pipeline", take some pictures with the McGhee clan, go home with what, $400,000?

I'll take option A any day, no matter the odds of coming home with a win. Gotta take these chances to keep your program moving forward.

And the Texas piepline? That's laughable. Recruiting Texas kids to Montana is a gamble. It's a gamble that has worked out for msu so far, but I don't think it's sustainable. I certainly would be scratching my head if it was even mentioned by Ash as a reason for backing out of the NDSU game.

they way you post how can you say "we" while talking about the griz? and i think we have won multipul titles if im not mistaken...and using GA southern who hasnt won in 13 years? i knwo we havent won since 2001 but we have enjoyed much more success than GA southern in the past 12 years.

And we Bobcats don't even want to face it. That just shows you how far Montana has fallen - that they ridicule the Cats for scheduling themselves into the playoffs when they themselves can't get to .500.

Jpun, if you schedule yourselves into the playoffs sooner or later you will run into a real team. Do the initials SHSU have any meaning to you. They sure made Ash's angels look like chump chamge two years in a row both away and at home.

Hell had Iowa or Wisconsin called NDSU you would be buying out a road game on your schedule before the AD even hung up the phone. get real here.

Nope, we had a home and home vs SHSU a few years ago. We left better options on the table to go down to Texas and honor our contract with them. Our AD took some heat for only having five home but he at least stands behind his principles.

I think part of the reason he is mad is that he was flexible with MSU. He gave them six years to figure it out and this date was confirmed in 2009. If MSU is so hungry for money and recruiting they should have just spared us all the trouble and we could have worked on getting another decent team to Fargo. Our AD has been trying to get some quality non-conference home games.

Hard to decline an invite that we never received. Blame Fullerton and Sac/PSU for that.
