Cats buyout game vs NDSU

Cars recruit Texas heavily. good move.

How many games in the Dakotas have the griz bought out> 2 or 3 now?

Traveling to the Dakotas twice to play in one season is poor scheduling.

None that I know of; name me one instance Shylock.

The only two games I know of during the past fifty years or so has been Cal Poly and Hofstra; both under the Hauck regime.

Again, I'm not defending the D2 game. I hate it. I really wish we'd go play a team like that.

But we're not.

I'm just as unhappy about that as I am that the Cats dropped NDSU.

Pretty sure we've only bought out SDSU once.

I don't mean to criticize the UM schedule. My main point is that this move by the Cats makes really good business sense in this day and age. Let's face it getting money out of the BOR is not easy. You have to maximize your bucks. Two trips to ND is a loser. Playing SMU, you make money, it is great for Texas recruting and it's a nice payback for the Texas players, especially DM, that are from the Dallas area. These kids parents had a hard time affording trips to Bozeman. It is a win, win all the way around.

If you can't see that than so be it!

I agree with pretty much everything in regards to the business side of things, but I don't know how it can be win-win all around.

Don't forget you're screwing over NDSU in the process.

Hope you don't have to go play there in the playoffs.

If MSU is dropping a game with NDSU and then schedules SMU instead for the same date, I see no problem with that. I think it's more of a wash than anything else. Still a quality opponent.

Wait a tick, werent the griz notorious for buying out the away game of a home and home? Saw lots of justifications back then. Now all of a sudden it's the 8th deadly sin?

When did they ever back down from playing the defending champs? The Griz bought out games to look for better competition, simple as that.
As vocal as I've been about this, I can't deny that we've done it, too.

Don't you remember the scheduling debacle that was 2007?

Pretty sure we bought out Cal Poly and SDSU that year to play Albany and Southern Utah.

At least we haven't done it since then.

I just have a problem with Cat fans saying this is entirely a good thing. I really disagree.

I haven't heard any Cat fans say it is entirely a good thing, just saying that it is easy to see the reasoning behind it. I was looking forward to the game in Fargo, admitting that it would likely be the toughest game of the year.

Being a fan of FCS football I'm disappointed the kittens would go this route. As much as I would like to see another trip to Autzen to get throttled by the Ducks I would be pissed if they did it at the expense of an app st or McNeese game.... the kittens & bison would be a fun game.... the kittens & SMU.... yawn....

Totally agree. Id much rather msu play ndsu than smu (or any other fbs), and I dont like the idea of breaking contracts. that said, bidness is bidness.....i guess.

Yes MSU may be breaking a contract but they are paying for it. NDSU gets a lot of money. Yes you as a Griz fan may like us playing NDSU better than playing SMU but you don't haved any responisibility for the business or monetary end of things and the future recruiting aspects of this deal. Yes as a bobcat fan I was planning on going to that game at NDSU. I would have like to see it played. However, I am also a realist and can see why it was done. It makes good business sense!

Forget, for a moment "business moves"; focus on honor and integrity. This move by msu's AD will eventually bite msu in its collective ass. Good luck scheduling future FCS OOC opponents anywhere, anytime. Buyouts will become huge, and justifiably so. Guarantee msu will be traveling on the front end of home and homes....... doubt if you'll find any team gullible enough to come Bozo first.

Well playing at SMU is as close as the cats are getting to Frisco. What a joke of an athletic department, they promise our AD they will come back to Fargo and then just leave us hung out to dry in the middle of February. If they don't want to play the game just say it so we can move on. Our AD is absolutely livid.

I guarantee we would have done a home and home with them had they honored this contract, but now don't expect NDSU going to Bozeman unless we are forced to.

Griz buyout a road game = business move and it's all good

Cats buyout a road game for the reason = weak

#EgrizLogic

The only thing though is the lateness of the buy-out. Puts NDSU is a bad position because the options are crap I'd bet.

Shirt Brint. MSU is 10 years behind the game. The U of M fans are allowed to HEAP tons of shirt on MSU because they sniped like the bee-otches they are for years when The U of M would buy out a game to pay some bills.

As I stated previously in this thread, "welcome to the bigs MSU."

The lateness of the buyout does suck I agree. But, when the home and home was scheduled with NDSU, ND was not in the conference. Now the Cats are stuck with a road game to ND as part of conference. Two games traveling out there just doen't make sense financially. I feel that the Cats are an honorable school with great integrity as is UM. But, finances play a critical role in making programs viable in todays world. Don't be naive.

The return game was supposed to happen in 2007. Our AD gave you six years to figure out how to make it work, don't give me any BS about UND joining the conference and travel when we are located in your neighboring state. This was a bush league move, plain and simple. Spare me the BS about business...an AD with integrity doesn't operate like this.

If you are too afraid of playing in Fargo, say it when most of the teams are still working on their schedules so we can collect the buyout and find somebody who is willing to play us. At least GSU and WCU had the decency to do that.

When we initially signed the contract, we didnt think you'd be so good. Take it as a compliment.

Agreed. MSU are pussies, figuratively and literally.

You know how i know without a doubt egriz is the cream of the FCS message board crop? Because we have MSU fans and NDSU fans getting into it on our board about their game haha...way to be EGRIZ!
