Cat Scrimmage

No matter how you look at it, JJ has lead the Griz deeper into the playoffs in one season than DM has ever done in his entire career at msu. But they are both excellent athletes.
It seems odd to me that many say "JJ has more playoff blah blah blah". I happen to think JJ is a great athlete as well as DM, but when are people going to factor the o-lines each has been behind? I am pretty sure most of the fans from both would say that the Griz o-line is almost always better soooooooooo wouldn't you think that would make one hell of a difference? Just saying

Yes, good call. I'm just stating that the distance each player has gone. I'm not trashing on DM but they seem to fall apart before the season is over. I honestly don't see them winning a NC with the way they've played over the past coulpe of years.

cats will end up with a minimum of three losses this coming year. Not saying they are bad but they will lose three. good luck to them.......oh I forgot....... the fourth loss ends their season!

Depends on when the losses come, but I think with our high ranking to start and the expanded playoff field, 8-4 could probably still make the playoffs. I'd put us around 9-3 though regular season, for the record. I didn't think we'd go 10 and 1 last season though so who knows.

Cats have a history of sliding into the playoffs as well as being "CO" champions. When is the last time they were the sole champions of the conference? Far too many times they have been the benefactor of circumstance just as DM has been in his games against the Griz 2011 and 2012 are good examples.

+1 ... When, if ever, have the cats ever been the sole champs? Ever?

the b.s.c. site has a list of champions. m.s.u. has been the sole champs seven times. last time was '84.

spin it however you want, but m.s.u. is just as good as we are right now. as in today. so is e.w.u. and poly. we're no longer 'the' team, just one of 'the' teams. benefactor of circumstance?

Now we know the real reason their field has "84" on it. It is to remind the fans of the last time the cats can claim to be the legitimate sole champions of the conference.

I wouldn't blame the Cats solely for the reason why they haven't won it outright since 1984. The way the conference awards its "champions" is ridiculous. The Griz should have won it outright in 2011. EWU the same in 2012. The Cats the same in 2010. But, because the conference has become competitive and a top 3 team will lose a game to one of the other top 2, they decide to let them "share" it. I think that sharing attitude needs to end and they just need to award it based on the tie breaker.

I've heard this one before too. It always makes me LOL. In 2010, the Cats didn't win the game as much as the Griz lost it. Well, as the records indicate and as the playoff field proved, the win for the Cats was as much a win as the loss was for the Griz. Unless you're PlayerRep or some other apologist, a loss is a loss just as much as a win is a win. You will never see me on this site writing that "the Cats almost won" or "if this would have happened," or as some wrote "if Syracuse wouldn't have shot so well and we wouldn't have had such a bad night. . ."

Good teams find a way to win. The Griz weren't good teams in 2010 or 2012, and thus that rule held true for them like it did for the Cats in 2011. The Cats were a good team, but the Griz were great, and the score of that game indicated as much. No excuses - leave it on the field.

I don't think the Cats have ever done better than the other co-champion in the playoffs, and off the top of my head I can't think of any year where they have done as well as (lose in the same round) as the other co-champion. As a conference I think the BSC has benefited from the fact that co-champions were named rather than awarding it to the Cats based on a tiebreaker

But, if say it came down to the Cats and the Griz, both of whom have one loss but the Cats lost to the Griz and the Griz lost to a non-contender, it would be a Co-conference share. That's ridiculous. Obviously, the Griz would own the tiebreaker and should own the conference title.

I don't have a problem with co-conference champions in that situation. It makes more sense to me that in 2011 EWU and MSU were co-conference champs, rather than MSU was the conference champs but the Eagles were the national champs

its always been shared since the conference began back in the early 60s. almost every conference does the same thing if they don't have a conf title game.

I think an ethical and proper thing for a school to do would be to yield their "co" champion status in a case like the cat EWU situation in which EWU went on to win the National Championship. Can the cats honestly feel like champions in that case? Only in their minds maybe. But then an ethical team would honor it's contract and willingsness to meet the competition be playing in Fargo this coming season.

So, it depends on what you do after conference play to determine who is the "real" conference champion? I see.
