I actually agree with everything you just said. If DM can't get past the quarters again this year, then that will define his legacy.
Peyton Manning couldn't have gotten past the quarters last year behind the o-line you guys trotted out there last year.

Now lets look at the Cats the last 5 D1 games the same year (including playoffs): 395 yds per game total offense (203 passing, 192 rushing), and 29.4 points per game. Ouch.... If the Griz were just "average", then the Cats were way below average... That sucks for you

Lets compare QBs in that same period of time:

JJ:
Passing: 88 - 141 (62.4%), 1071yds, 14td, 3int 154.7 Efficiency Rating

Rushing: 39 for 256yds (6.56yds per carry), 2td

-

McGhee:
Passing: 80 - 138 (58%), 1015yds, 7td, 7int 126.3 Efficiency Rating

Rushing: 36 - 138yds (3.83yds per carry), 2td"

Just sayin.....

What were DMs' stats compared to JJs' last year. I am not computer smart enough to look that up...

This about sums it up! DM has had an amazing career so far. JJ is a really good one but has a ways to go to equal DM.

As far as yards and TDs and all that?

No doubt.

But they both have the same number of playoff wins, with JJ doing it in 1/3 the number of seasons DM has. ;)

lol... This thread is ridiculous. They're both great football players & I repect them both... now lets revisit this conversation in November.

After reading this whole thread, i went to the only person that could anser this...DM himself. I asked him who was better and his response was " Do I know you? I just want to finish my lunch, but thanks for being drunk amd yelling FTG at noon on a weekday." So there you go...debate over

Did any of you Griz fans consider the possibilty that it is ok if JJ and DeNarius are respected equally as talented quarterback who will both be missed when they graduate? I don't know a single Cat fan who has doubted the ability of JJ, both as an athlete and a leader. The guy is simply a stud and he'll have a fire under him this season, no doubt. But to doubt DeNarius in the same breath is moronic. The guy is a senior, hasn't advanced to the semi finals, and has a passion to win that is unparalled in the Big Sky outside of JJ himself. Let's give the due respect to both athletes.

Really JJ AND D Mac the same??? no way JJ is in the same class as D Mac

From the Sports Network.
"DeNarius McGhee, Montana State. Yes, he's still around. The thick built fourth-year starter has gained more yards (10,017 - 9,116 passing and 901 rushing) than any other returning quarterback in the FCS. Behind his lead, the Bobcats have won a share of three straight Big Sky titles. The three-time Walter Payton Award finalist should be dominant as a senior. "

JJ is what he is, he is a good QB and is your best option, but he is not dominant nor in McGhee's league at all!

Quarterfinal Wins:

JJ - 1
DM - 0

Seriously, we could go back and forth all day. :coffee:

They're both good. I personally would take JJ, but that's just me.

It's too bad JJ's career got hi jacked because I would have loved to watch him give DM another QB clinic. DM is a good QB but not smart enough to know when a play is over. Thus the DM epidemic of fumbles, safeties and picks. Even Ash took note of the turnover epidemic at one point. JJ in contrast knows when to get rid of the ball.
Cat fans need to remember that JJ and the Griz nearly beat SHSU just after SHSU made MSU look like a DII team.

FWIW, the Griz also made Bozeman State look like a DII team.

And the Cats have won two out of the last three meetings. DM has proved himself statistic wise and as a leader. JJ has yet to do that. Yes he had a few good games and he is a really good QB but hasn't acheived the levels yet of DM. He may do that his season but time will tell!
