Carroll College vs Portland State

Diggs, you are no doubt correct. However, as another poster has commented, Portland State isn't a football powerhouse. Strange things can happen in athletic competition....that is why we play the game.

Both the coaches and the media expect PSU to contend for the BSC title this year

Except the Cats actually have been competing for the Big Sky Title, unlike PSU. 2nd place last year and Champs the year before.

I hope Carroll does well. Jen Weld is a cool stadium to watch a game...it should be a fun time for any Carroll fans traveling out to Portland.

Hope springs eternal; 16 years in the BSC; zero titles. Not even a share. Of course, everyone's chances for a share go up with Fulletton's Folly 13.

I would say, though, Portland State has a distinct advantage of wearing green uniforms on green turf.

Carroll College plays at the Portland State Vikings in their second game of the season on Sept. 1. Lets hear some predictions of how this is gonna go! Im saying its going to be extremely ugly for the Saints. Something like 56-3 im thinking!

TDiggs, love your handle.

with the starters, yes. After that there is no quality depth whatsoever in comparison with FCS. If you could analyze each starter for Carroll, how they got there, did they transfer from FCS or JC transfer. Who were they recruited by etc... you would find some comparable products but still slightly inferior.
I think this is essentially correct. I have seen lots of games in Washington State and generally speaking FCS or Eastern Washington ar far closer to Div II or NAIA Central Washington or Western Washington that they are to the FBS huskies or cougars. The griz are good but the gap between them and Carrol College is closer than it is to a team like the huskies. I know there are lots of one off games like Sac State V Oregon State or Lindeman V No Colorado but speaking of athletes the griz compare to carrol more than they do to the huskies or ducks.
Completely disagree. Not even close. There are way more Big Sky players who should be on PAC 12 rosters than there are Frontier players who should be on Big Sky rosters.

Isn't it a fair comparison to judge talent to look at the players who ascend to the next level (i.e. NFL)? Given the pro game is different than college fb but if you just want to judge raw talent. I have no data but I would imagine it is better than 40:1 the number of FCS players compared to NAIA players that make it in the pros. In looking at Carroll and Montana you have two very good programs in their respective divisions. But overall the talent level is just not even close imho.

i am so sick of you guys that havent seen carroll play one down predicting a port st. blow out. yes, psu has a distinct advantage when you compare players by position, but van diest and company will come ready to play. you griz fans are like the jealous brother that when you're not getting all the attention, you have to belittle the younger brother. win or lose , carroll will represent the state of montana well and all montnans should be proud - sheesh.

I have it on good authority that the Scrappy Saints of Carroll College (Helena, MT) are even as we speak preparing for their epic scrum with the Vikings of Portland State. :ugeek:

The massively over-brained SuperSaint, Mike Van Diest has his troupe of second-thoughts and also-rans whipped into a foamed-mouth frenzy! Every action has a purpose; every play has a point; the SuperSaint tells his Wispy Warriors to jump, and they only wonder "How High....SIR!"

Ultimately, of course, none of this will matter. Carroll will be grasping at "moral victories" as the clock winds down on what will most-assuredly be another frustrating example of PSU Invincability!

Just spoke with Van Diest today...mentioned the Portland State game to him but he quickly responded they have to worry about Northern (Game 1) before PSU.
