Carroll College vs Portland State

In regards to the Lindenwood game. Yes, it was a bad lose. With some NAIA teams they have players that could easily play FCS or even FBS, but they fail to make the grades to become eligible to play in the NCAA. Lindenwood had a bunch of those guys. Still a bad lose though.

I am a Carroll guy and I am under no illusion that Carroll will win. I hope, in the end, Carroll plays well and enjoys playing better competition - just like the Griz did at UT, and comes out healthy and with a little $$$ ready for the newly remodled Frontier Conference schedule.

Carroll College plays at the Portland State Vikings in their second game of the season on Sept. 1. Lets hear some predictions of how this is gonna go! Im saying its going to be extremely ugly for the Saints. Something like 56-3 im thinking!

Probably about right. Are there other examples of the very top teams in NAIA playing average teams in FCS? My initial thought is that this could be an ugly blowout, although MVD will have these guys playing their guts out, and they do have a lot of pride and tradition. I'd predict 48 to 10.

Just last year Lindenwood beat UNC 22-20. Lindenwood was a pretty comparable team to Carroll but UNC would not be considered average for FCS. I am guessing it will be within 3 touchdowns.

Isn't it Lindenwood that has that barf-producing red and white barber pole stripped field featured on another thread? :shit:

Not sure, but they had a hell of a running back that could have easily played FBS. Just might not have had the grades to qualify.

I think the difference position by position between Carroll and PSU is about 2%. So you will not see the D-line all getting pancaked like you are thinking. That 2% advantage for PSU will show up in the form of WR speed which will give them the win if they complete those bombs.

Whoa there Ozzy, let's back up the crazy train. You think that PSU only has a 2% advantage at each position? :silly: :silly:

wow... yeah...

Guess that means MSU and UM are only about 2.25% better than Carrol?

I like Carrol, because they represent the state of Montana well. But I cant wait for the beat down PSU lays on them simply because Im so sick of hearing about how carrol could compete with or even beat the Griz. PSU will put Carrol in their place, and will make it look very, very easy.

with the starters, yes. After that there is no quality depth whatsoever in comparison with FCS. If you could analyze each starter for Carroll, how they got there, did they transfer from FCS or JC transfer. Who were they recruited by etc... you would find some comparable products but still slightly inferior.

No... no you wouldn't

I think this is essentially correct. I have seen lots of games in Washington State and generally speaking FCS or Eastern Washington ar far closer to Div II or NAIA Central Washington or Western Washington that they are to the FBS huskies or cougars. The griz are good but the gap between them and Carrol College is closer than it is to a team like the huskies. I know there are lots of one off games like Sac State V Oregon State or Lindeman V No Colorado but speaking of athletes the griz compare to carrol more than they do to the huskies or ducks.

The Griz of the past 20 years could be compared to schools like Idaho, Wyoming, Utah State, Washington State. On the other hand, Carroll could be compared to a bottom dwellar FCS school like Northern Colorado and perhaps Idaho State.

One thing that all of us need to be proud of is that the Big Sky Conference is the best conference in the FCS and the Frontier Conference is the best conference in the NAIA.

Man, I am a homer and all, but claiming that the Big Sky is the best conference in the FCS is a bold statement..

Thats not a bad thing for a line. Usually lower player wins.
Ridiculous statement. Why do we recruit 6'6"-6'9" OLinemen? Gragg was 6'9". How often did a 6' DLineman get to DD?

Shows how much credibiltiy you bring. CWU is not NAIA; they are DII and W. Washington dropped football altogether three years ago. How badly did the Cougars beat an average MSU team last time (2010)? Answer, since you don't appear knowledgeable, is they were lucky to escape with a one point win after being beaten like a drum the whole game. That same Cougar team lost to Washington by seven. Does this confirm just how many levels above UM/MSU the Cougars/Huskies are? Brilliant.

Portland St. is not a force in the BSC; they are 48-62 over the last ten years. They will still embarrass Carroll.

The Huskies are ascending but last year should have lost to EWU.......almost 500yds passing. Huskies,
Cougs and Beavers (Sac State) are not the machines of the past but the Huskies will be back. At the end of last year Griz could of stayed with any of the 3 IMO?

Go Saints!

@Snookum-Jim and T-bird51:

You guys have no idea what you are talking about. There is a major difference in the depth charts of a team like PSU and a team like Carroll. Most kids that play for Carroll are out of MT and Idaho(generally speaking i have not looked up the facts this is just generally knowing) and these kids are not recruited by the big schools like UW and WSU they are more locally recruited by smaller schools like NAIA schools and the few schools like UM and MSU and ISU. These are still good athletes but not comparable to the athletes that teams like PSU has to choose from. The recruiting and attraction to a bigger school is much more effective than that of say even a very good Carroll College team. The gap between Carroll and the Griz is very large and in no world should Carroll ever be compared to the Griz because it would never be a close game. This is coming from a guy who has experience playing against Carroll and being a long time loyal griz fan(AKA me). So if you dont know what your talking about save the posts and leave your dumb comments out of here
