Carroll College vs Portland State

Carroll is like a high school team. 42-3

You baffle me sometimes. Carroll would beat the shit out of ANY highschool team in the nation. Are they FCS level. Nope but for some reason you comparisons show your true lack of knowledge for the game. Carroll has kids that could start for Montana.

Lets just hope Carroll comes out injury free against that dirty PSU team. I remember hearing the last two years, they are a pretty dirty team.

As for Dakota....mark my words....the state of MT is going to know the name Dakota in the next few years.....you know the Dakota the Cats got in this years recruiting class, qb from TX. 8-)

What will happen is their reciever wont be able to get open so they will have to rely on the TE game and running the ball. This will make them to one dimensional and their D will get tired and that is when the game will get out of hand. Look for a 21-7 half time game and then the D will crap out and the game will finish around 55-10. I hope they can get some guys open downfield and then the game might be different but I don't know who they have this year at the WR spots.

Thats not a bad thing for a line. Usually lower player wins.

Lower center of gravity is always better, but a lack of height probably makes goal line defense & the passing game much more vulnerable.

I can't speak for the level of play of Carroll but living in Portland I can tell you that PSU almost always loses the games they should win. It was especially true when "the man in black" was coaching. I think last year I saw a bit of change in the fundamentals but they are still not a very good team and the "ugly readheaded step-child of Oregon college football" personna persists. When the Griz played in Hillsboro Stadium a couple of years ago I saw some of the dirtiest play by the Vikings I had ever seen in college football. I believe the final score of the game will be closer than some think, something like 14 with late scores by the Saints keeping it closer than maybe it really was.

I don't believe Carroll has ever seen the Pistol offense. I think PSU's speed to the outside is going to be Carroll's undoing. Van Diest is a very good coach, I just don't believe Carroll has the athletes to keep up with PSU for very long.

I really don't know how anyone on this thread could predict that carroll will keep this a close game. I can see the score being something like 21-7 at half yes, but it will turn out ugly in the end. The difference between NAIA and FCS is too large and there are much better athletes even compared to a highly ranked team like Carroll. Like i said earlier coming out of it injury free and with anywhere from 7-14 pts would be a good goal from them especially with their next three games being against some of the toughest opponents in the conference, Tech, Rocky and Eastern Oregon. Carroll is a zone run game oriented offense and that is too one dimensional when playing against FCS teams like PSU. If PSU stops the run game A.K.A. Chance Demarais(like i assume they are preparing for) then they should have no problem cruising through this one

I respect Carroll's history of championships and admire the decision to go play Portland State, but I'm with the camp that predicts a lopsided victory by PSU. As with any game of this nature, the upper level team is in a no-win situation -- win big and all the critics say yes, you were supposed to win big, win a close game and the critics will question your abilities against an "inferior" team or lose and face what Michigan faced when Appalachian State went to the Big House and won. I will be rooting for Carroll to play tough and hang close, but I don't see it happening.

Edit -- Carroll will play tough and give it everything they have, but what they have, I'm afraid, is not enough.

You guys are over estimating FCS and underestimating NAIA. I predict it will be a pretty good game Carrol will do better than we did against Iowa or Oregon last time we played. 35-17 PSU

wrong! PSU will kick Carroll's ass and we can quit hearing how Carroll could compete in the BSC. I can't stand PSU, but i hope they mop the field with the saints

Carroll College plays at the Portland State Vikings in their second game of the season on Sept. 1. Lets hear some predictions of how this is gonna go! Im saying its going to be extremely ugly for the Saints. Something like 56-3 im thinking!

Probably about right. Are there other examples of the very top teams in NAIA playing average teams in FCS? My initial thought is that this could be an ugly blowout, although MVD will have these guys playing their guts out, and they do have a lot of pride and tradition. I'd predict 48 to 10.

Just last year Lindenwood beat UNC 22-20. Lindenwood was a pretty comparable team to Carroll but UNC would not be considered average for FCS. I am guessing it will be within 3 touchdowns.

Big diff

UNC had a new coach and was changing the culture of the team, it was a new system and some players hadn't bought into his system yet. Some of the UNC players really didnt give a shit in that game, they found themselves on the bench most of the rest of the season too.

PSU is an up and coming team, Burton has been doing some good recruiting, already has his system in place and knows more about the pistol than any other FCS coach out there. How many solid pistol offenses has Carroll seen? PSU will run over and around them all day.

PSU will be an upper tier team in the BSC along with MSU, EWU, CP, SUU and um if JJ is around.

Well since cat2506 is never correct in his football analyst. Carroll makes it a game maybe losing in the fourth. I'll never stop laughing at the thought of all cat fans chest thumping last November.
