I would love to see Bobby back in Missoula. We owned the Big Sky under Bobby. We were hated by everyone, and took a certain swagger into every game we played. He is an excellent special teams coach (something we have missed since he has left).

Also, he now has a shit load of money in his pocket, and I don't know too many programs that would be willing to give him another shot at a head coaching position at the BCS level. I think we would have him here in Missoula for a long time.

Define "long time." Are we talking 10 years? Six? Five? Honestly, if he gets Montana back to the natty within the next 3 years, some other FBS dumpster fire will give him an offer that blows his paltry UM salary out of the water. Then its good bye Bobby!

Isn't that the way it usually works with any head at our level. There may be some rare exceptions, but not many. Is it better to have a coach that gets us "there" and then bails or a lifetime coach that never gets us "there?"

Exactly, if you're in the FCS it's a good sign if your coaches are getting better jobs. If Hauck brings us a couple national title appearances and moves on then that hire would be a huge success.

Absolutely yes! Anyone who doesn't like him or want him back should have their heads checked.

Agreed. Last 4 years of Hauck here the Griz were 51-6 overall with a 31-1 conference record with 2 NC appearances. I think people sometimes forget how dominant the Griz were in conference under Hauck his last few years. Plus, to win a NC, you have to actually make it to a NC!

Last 4 years:
2006: 12-2 (8-0)
2007: 11-1 (8-0)
2008: 14-2 (7-1)
2009: 14-1 (8-0)

It'd be great to see the "attitude" his teams had return to Griz FB.
Plus Cat fans hated his guts...that's a sign he's doing something right! :P

Re hires are not uncommon elsewhere but I can't think of one in college football coaching. It seems to be a profession where you are always looking to move on. Purely speculation on my part but placing myself in similar situations I would bet he's looking for an assistant position with another FBS school. The only other typical outcome is dropping down to HC positions below division 1.

If there is anything about the entire Bobby Hauck era that speaks volumes to me is that he took a job like UNLV over Montana in the first place as an indicator of how ambitious he was to move on to an FBS gig. As it turned out he wanted to in the worst way and I doubt he thinks any differently now. I'm not connected to the inside knowledge of what applications they are receiving, but I just can't help put think he has Montana in his rear view mirror.

Newspapers in Las Vegas are speculating that Bobby is returning to Montana. It appears that he quit on his own. They fault the facilities and lack of support.

Bobby Petrino at Louisville.

Bobby would be welcomed back by most people and it would be a good idea for us to do it. He did a good job here and only got more coaching experience at UNLV he did some good things there and got them to a bowl game.

Hauck doesn't want the job and is not interested. Do you really think he'd come back to Montana after a FBS gig?

Bingo. And Louisville fans couldn't have been happier to have him back.

Bobby Petrino at Louisville.

Also Buddy Teevens at Dartmouth, and he came back from FBS jobs (4 of them).

With the probability that the Griz move up in a few years - why wouldn't he be? He would again be the head coach of an FBS team, have better facilities, better recruiting capabilities, and fan support. More than likely the salary would increase and other portions of his contract would also compensate him well. Unless he does not want to live in Montana again (this may be a possibility after Vegas) - I think him having interest in the job is highly likely. I thought his ego would prevent him from considering moving back down, but in essence he could be taking a lateral (in a few years that is).

Not true. BH is definitely interested.

Well, according to my source, he is not interested. This source is very close to Hauck and his family. We'll see.... :thumb:

This is not true. From inside the program, Bobby was forced to resign. It was not his own decision. I can promise you that.

Agreed and no better example, and I knew I was going to step in with that line. Maybe Hauck is interested in returning. One thing I can say with some degree of confidence is that performing a job builds up a constant load of mental energy that has to be harnessed and once you leave a job at a time that is seen as a step up that all decompresses so looking at the same job as a step down brings its own challenges as far as re-energizing. I've been re-hired once before and I returned to a job because I was fired and needed the job, so I went back to a previous job in which I was miserable, uninterested and there only for the pay check and gone at the next better opportunity. That is what I was really speaking from was that experience.

Moral of the story: Best to hire the guy who is hungry and looking at the job as a step up or else match Hack's contract at UNLV and he might bring some enthusiasm to the job.

I think Petrino wandered through the desert between Arkansas and Louisville and he reacquired that taste for bigger and better things, and it appears now he may be in another somewhat tight spot.
