Can we beat NDSU?

I'm not sure what everyone will do when we beat ndsu? It sure won't make our season as we have many more good teams to play. One game? The first game. What is the big deal?

We had best prepare for a good summer and stop talking about ndsu as if they are world beaters???

The never ending optimism of Griz Nation is sometimes overwhelming.

Short answer: no.

When your team has some time to figure out the new offense?

Maybe.

Look, RJ, if EWU could beat them with Taiwan Jones in for only half the game, I think we'll be just fine.

You're supposed to post this on EagleNation, or whatever it's called, right?

Sadly after seeing scrimmage I give them 1/1000 chance. Hurry up three and outs will exhaust the defense and a ball control power game will dominate as game goes on.

Well fortunately this team has only been running this new offense for 4 weeks now, and I have to say they did pretty well for only knowing it for 4 weeks. They should look even better during fall camp, and I'm thinking they'll be just fine. I agree though it'll take them several games, maybe most of the season, before they have the offense firing on all cylinders.

if every player on the Griz was named Chuck Norris

That'd make it quite the bitch to find the correct locker.

On a positive note, though, the dude who sews the names on the back of the jerseys sure would be happy.

about what?

Personally I just couldn't live with the "flatness" of the Fargo area...

You live in Texas.

Yes, i do.....but I live in "Hill Country"....it ain't exactly Western Montana, but it sure as FUCK isn't flat like North Dakota....

I'm just happy we get them here this year and don't have to play them in the Areola Center in Grand Forks again. That place is cramped and loud...

Have you been all across ND or are you just throwing out a comment based on what you have been told about the Red River Valley?

And it gets SWEATY. Lots of audible breathing and undermoob stains.

Possible impact on NDSU in 2015.

FARGO – The North Dakota State redshirt freshman class may be counted on more than previously expected in light of a couple of depth chart defections this week. Wide receiver Carey Woods and linebacker James Gates both decided to give up the game.

Head coach Chris Klieman said he believes both players will remain in school. Woods and Gates were both listed as primary backups at their respective decisions with Woods, a junior, heading into his fourth year in the program. He had 16 receptions last year for 165 yards and made his biggest mark in an FCS quarterfinal playoff win over Coastal Carolina with four catches for 48 yards.

His departure opens a door even further for freshmen receivers Khayvon Hawkins and Darrius Shepherd. Senior Zach Vraa and sophomore R.J. Urzendowski are the starters with senior Nate Moody expected to return from a knee injury next season. The Bison also have sophomore Tyler Wrice and junior Eric Perkins who have seen the field.

Gates, from Menomonie, Wis., played in just three games on special teams and the emergence of freshmen outside linebackers Dan Marlette and Levi Jordheim may have factored into his depth chart status. Marlette is to the point where he is being heavily considered as the No. 2 guy behind starter M.J. Stumpf.

Although there was still some evaluation that needed to be done after Saturday’s second intrasquad scrimmage of the spring at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome, Klieman believes Marlette is likely to be in the top five or six linebackers.

“So I envision him playing, you bet,” he said.

Like a lot of young defensive players, Marlette said just trying to get a grasp of the technical Tampa 2 defense has seen its share of mental hurdles.

“Physically I’m starting to get a hold of it,” he said. “It’s to the point where I can look at plays and point out what I did wrong. It’s a learning process.”

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Marlette was a two-time South Dakota all-state selection at Sioux Falls Washington High School. In track and field, he was a member of a state-winning relay team and took second in the 300-meter hurdles.

“Effort is everything on this defense,” he said.

Asked if he is preparing himself to play in the fall, Marlette said, “Preparing, yes, but I have to put myself in a position to achieve that.”

On the whole, the defense put itself in better positions in the Saturday scrimmage, Klieman said. The offense had the upper hand in the first half of spring practice, but the head coach said his defense made big strides this week – one week before the annual Spring Game next Saturday.

He pointed specifically at senior cornerbacks C.J. Smith and Jordan Champion who provided some leadership. The coaches would like to see junior middle linebacker Nick DeLuca make strides in that area as well.

“You go against (quarterback) Carson Wentz every day and you’re going to get better and you’re going to get challenged,” Klieman said. “I know last week wasn’t their best performance and they would admit that but this week as a whole and culminating today, I thought our guys competed really well. There was a lot more energy and emotion on the defensive side today.”

Klieman said offensive tackle Jack Plankers suffered an ankle sprain, but should be full strength for the start of summer conditioning.

“We’ll look at the tape but we’re moving the team forward,” Klieman said. “We’re moving the 2015 team forward and that was a really good week.”

Stumpf led the Bison in tackles Saturday with seven. Marlette had five. Wentz remained efficient in spring ball hitting 7 of 10 passes for 110 yards and three touchdowns. Vraa had four receptions with two going for touchdowns.

We're MONTANA..ACT LIKE IT.

Act like Montana that is all we have to be.

Reality is NCAA is going to allow this Fargo outfit to continue to cheat until the UND name is resolved.

As Montana we do not lower ourselves to the level of this outfit in Fargo.

When the playing field is level it will be "Who?" when the outfit from Fargo is mentioned.

It's a long way to go until August, and anything could happen on the field . . . But the Bison have to be licking their chops to face the Griz with a new coach and a newly implemented spread running on 3 cylinders vs a strong downhill rushing attach from the herd. The potential exists for a lopsided TOP, and a strong 2nd half by the Bison. The Griz D will need to come to play and carry the action.

Looks like the resident psycho is back. Still getting into fights at Fargo Billiards? You ever check into the psych ward at Prairie?

I give the edge to NDSU because of timing. I think the Grizzlies offense will still be trying to iron some of the wrinkles out of a new offense. But It's early in the season and the NDSU offense should be better than last year. The defense will be good, but not as good as the last 4 years.

Later in the season, I think the Grizzlies offense will have its timing down and pack more of a punch. So that could make the playoffs interesting.

Your post is very accurate even as a Bison Fan in Bismarck. I believe you have it right. Your New HC, New QB, new fast offense, first test against the defending 4x champs, not good. Your defense is going to be the key to keeping the higher powered Bison offense off the field. They come back fully loaded! Bison D reload is going to be what you want to watch. So actually the best sides to match up are set, and the weaker sides of the ball are balanced too for both teams. Bison D will need time to mature but knowing what it takes to win Championships from prior players is a HUGE advantage. I hope they move the game to night time kick off as your stadium looks awesome in some night game photos. Its going to have a great story line with ESPN and that past 2003 game when Bison upset the Griz and last years game, should have lots of drama and suspense. Remember this is usually our opening game to kick a FBS Team's butt on national TV so I guess the Grizz rivalry should be just about as good plus a story line even better.

I can tell you back in the 90's the Griz teams were beasts and had national talented teams. Funny how it changed over the past decade or so...... You have our respect for sure and the regional rivalry should grow and could come back to a playoff game after conference play is done. Home field should help for the Griz but experience and disciplined football will favor the Bison. Can't wait. How can I get a couple tickets? Or do we sit in the mountain sides to watch?
Go Herd, we love to play big opening games especially on national TV! First play could be a play action from Carson Wentz to Vraa deep to open it up. Watch out Griz Fans.

BisBison1 - can't wait for Aug.29th!
