Flame away. This might've been the best team in the conference we lost to and they were pumped up by being at their home opener, surprised with new unis/helmets, and on a roll. And yet we took them to the wire.

Yes, errors, yes bad stuff and big concerns. This team will get better, I see a big winning streak starting next week.

Is 1 game still considered a big streak

It starts with a win though - familiar with those Weber fan?

Sorry, but I don't buy it.

We should have won this game, and once again the wheels fell completely off.

The coaches looked pretty silly in the 4th quarter. After five games, they haven't shown that they're competent enough to put games away.

At this point 6-5 is a good goal.
+1

Please Brint go to the northern co. web and get your "next scouting report" ready so you can further sugar coat the rest of 2012 football season.

Big kid,

Seems like you know a lot about football. You are ripping on the Griz team, the coaching staff, and Brint. I am sure all of them are going to change and do whatever you want them to do. Your complaints are so important. It is great to pass your disappoint onto others. Blaming is so classy. I suggest you offer your resume' to the AD. He would love to have such a knowledgeble guy on the staff. Heck, in fact run for govenor. We all love to hear negative blather. You'd be just like those political ads on TV.

Sorry BW, but this is the REAL 2506

Guarantee that freshman qb would have had a whole lot of pressure and a lot less time........TYE. To some this was just a good hard fought loss. Great then sleep well. These kids played hard and the coaches let em down. Sorry I'm not a "its ok" kinda guy.

This is 19 and 20 year old kids playing a game. I think you should find another hobby you will live longer.

All those 19 and 20 year olds ask for is a chance to win not be given instruction to the contrary. What our coaches did was inexcusable. Last week we were up 24-7 and what happens the coaches go to turtle mode. Get real this was the worst job of coaching in the last 5 minutes of a Grizzly game I have ever witnessed. Go sing Kum ba Ya!

You will feel better in the morning my friend.

Been a rough day huh?

I agree though, you should right the shipp next week, just not convinced of the week after, I was sweating every time that kid cocked his arm to throw today.

Well give my some sugar..I'm with Brint..Griz can win every game the rest of the regular season..will they..hell if I know..I'm drunk! GO Griz!

I think Brint's prediction is a reasonable. May not get there, but the team and coaches will give it a heck of a run.

After having a little bit of time to process this, a few things come to mind:

1) We HAVE to have some sort of faith in our QB and throw it more than once in a blue moon. I know that we put an obscene amount of yards on the ground, but come on! He has targets! If he can't get it done, use him like that guy that Sam Houston had running the wildcat. 1 dimensional teams are much easier to beat than a balanced team.
2) Game and clock management needs to improve, drastically. wasting 2 timeouts on 4th and 1? Running in-bounds with seconds left rather than taking out and giving the team one more shot? That needs to be cleaned up.
3)Killer instinct. While the players have it, the play callers don't. Putting it in cruise control with only a 9 point lead is an abomination. With all the momentum that we had, we did not go for the kill shot. I could hear the guy from Mortal Kombat saying "Finish Him!" but we let them stand and fight.
4)Presenting the 800 lb gorilla: Secondary play. LBs are solid. DL is solid. No one else is. Receivers making grabs with no one within 15 yards is ridiculous. The last TD, there was no one even in the same zip code! I realize that this was a broken play, but have the discipline to stay with your assignment! People need to do their 1/11, and that was clearly not accomplished by the secondary today.

With all that being said, I am very happy with the grit that these players showed by fighting to the very end. I understand that this is a young team and that there will be growing pains. Next week will be the tell. If we DESTROY Northern Colorado, then we might, MIGHT, have a shot at being in the playoffs. If not, then adois muchachos! This season is in the bag. The competition after UNC is strong enough to make that a very difficult proposition.

Personally, I see the Griz beating UNC, but then SUU, South Dakota, and State are games that we could very easily loose. Out of those I see 1 maybe 2 losses in that. With this staff and the level of competence in the secondary, I just don't see this progressing beyond that. Brint, I respect you assessment, but I don't agree. I want to, but I just don't see it. I still will be yelling at the TV and rooting on the Griz here in Portland, though! I will never stop doing that.

Don't know why; he (Brad Sorensen) only had that one receiver #13 Mitch Jessup to throw to. Was impressed by their RB Brian Wilson, though. He reminded me of Chase Reynolds in his build and his playing/running style. I've seen better throwing exhibitions by a BSC QB over the years as well, besides. Surprised that Sorensen in listed as 6'5" and 230 lbs; watching the game on Root Sports he seemed more like 6'3" and 195 lbs. Both South Dakota and Liberty appeared more formidable IMHO than SUU. Of couse, it's always pretty tough to compare, considering how the matchups pan out. But the Griz should take the next couple (two) games. It's North Dakota on the road that worries me; all other games don't; not at this stage and of what I've seen. An 8 - 3 is still foreseeable; at present.

Jessup was his stud receiver but Sorenson no doubt has a big time arm and the mental capacity to be very dangerous, fortunately we were able to get enough pressure in the second half to disrupt him enough.

With 24 teams invited to this year's FCS Playoffs, I still ascertain the Griz getting in. What do you think the Northern Iowa fans are thinking; they with a 1 - 4 record? Of course, they can run the table until the Playoffs just like the Griz can. 8 -3? 7 - 4? Still pretty decent chances.

But then again, if Flowers was guarding him all game I can see your apprehension; tremenously!!! That Flowers couldn't cover the ground even if he was laying on it. Even the Griz have a better defensive secondary than that!!!

I really hope you are right and this team can turn things around like what was done last year.... as much as I want to be semi-positive about what I've seen the past couple of weeks though, I can't be. There are some serious issues right now, and if they don't get fixed soon we'll be in deep shit against the other good teams in conference.

What I see as the two biggest issues right now are our lack of killer instinct and that falls on the coaches... and our safety play. Of course there are other issues too which people have brought up (clock management, etc), but those two just stand out as huge issues in my opinion.

First issue...wtf is it with us taking our foot off the gas when we get a lead? This reminds me so much of what Dan Reeves used to do when he was coach of the Broncos years ago... get a lead, and then try to run out the clock waaay too early, and lose.

We packed it in once again when we got a lead, just like against NAU. Content to try to run out the clock with 8 minutes to go against a very good EWU team... brilliant. I knew it was coming, other people watching knew it was coming, and I'm sure EWU knew exactly what was coming too. Worked well.

Second issue... wow... the safety play reminds me of days with Dennehy's kid back there whiffing on tackles and being out of position. First off, why was Tully running away from the bootleg when the QB was 10 yards past the line of scrimmage already? Second, how many times are we going to hear "got behind the safeties" from announcers this year? Holy shit...it's like every damn long pass play you can count on "got behind the safeties" being said. Where is the safety help for our other DBs? No where... where are the bone jarring hits from our safeties when someone catches a deep ball or something over the middle? Hm...

Have we actually seen our safeties hit someone this year? I mean seriously...that last TD pass if Anderson was back there, their WR would've likely still be wondering what timezone he was in after being hit. Instead not even an attempt to hit the guy..

Other teams have nothing to fear going over the middle on us, or going deep on us. Their WRs aren't going to get hit, they'll just get glared at harshly (maybe) by our safeties after making the catch... We have two of the most un-aggressive safeties I've ever seen in football right now starting for us. Do we really have no one else we can play out there to see if we can get a little of that intimidation factor back?

Shit..put Henderson back there, he seemed to destroy that one DB for EWU and knocked his helmet off blocking. Sad when our WRs are putting on bigger hits on DBs than our safeties are on WRs...

That said....yeah it's frustrating right now. Seeing two leads slip away because of going in a shell is very frustrating. I really hope the ship gets back on the right track soon or we're going to be in trouble against the other quality teams in the Big Sky :(
