Cal Poly will thump EWU

Cal poly is by far the most physical team in the BSC....just don't think it will matter against ewu.
Agree. IF Eastern puts up points it's doubtful Cal Poly will be able to keep up. The question is how well their secondary can shut down EWU's receivers. Few have been able to do so.

It appears to me that Cal Poly, more than any other team in the Big Sky by a mile, can be affected by how the referees work a game. I've only seen them play twice, against the Griz and Portland State, and in each game there were 10-12 plays that could have seen their offense flagged for procedure or motion. They run on a tempo count, and a lot of time there is movement on the line a fraction of a second before the ball is snapped. Most refs give just a tidbit of leeway to this, but technically a flag could be thrown.

(Poly isn't the best defense in the Big Sky, SUU is, Poly is 2nd)

It'll be interesting if Poly can get sustained drives and score points. EWU may be poised for a let-down after yet another big win.
If you look at conference only stats (more apples to apples) Cal Poly is the best defense in the Big Sky.

Scoring defense: CP #1 (15.8). SUU #2 (18.8).

Total defense: CP #1 (307.7). SUU #2 (345.2).

Cumulative stats don't mean much in the Big Sky. For example, Eastern and Poly have only 3 common conference opponents. Eastern and MSU have had only 2 common conference opponents. Defensively, the Bobcats were one of the BSC's best teams until they faced the Eagle offense. The Cal Poly defense may be able to slow down Eastern, but I wouldn't look to statistics for proof.

Word, I get ya.

Cal Poly's defensive numbers might also be scewed right now because they have not faced EWU yet, while SUU has. If Cal Poly can contain EWU to even average offensive numbers, then they can stake claim as the top defense in the Big Sky.

Yeh - best defense not going to the playoffs.

Small game changer at eastern:

In games against 4 common opponents SUU has given up 70 points compared to 57 given up by Cal Poly. Just saying....

Good for him...always happy to see the NCAA actually have a heart.

EWU is the Sam Houston State of our conference: loaded with speed/skill folks, well coached (Beau Baldwin should be BSC coach of the year). premier QB, etc. etc. No way they lose to Cal Poly.

Just too bad the team comes off as gangsta, bro-in-the-hood, tattooed, thug-like, throat-slashing, prima donna style players. Oh, and their home field is hard on the eyes too...

Just sayin'

That is the key, to beat EWU VA needs to be on the sideline.

EWU will finish the regular season undefeated. Cal Poly might have a shot, but I doubt they can do it. I think it is pretty clear that the Eagles, ugly field or not, are the best team in the BSC and that Vernon Adams is a special player (though I still think the Griz can beat them.) As for the rest.... Really? I mean seriously... any worse than anybody else? Can't we bag the "thug" bit? I thought that went out with Pat Williams.

Good lord! I was enjoying the read on this thread with the valid points until this. Luck for 66volvo, UM or any other team in the Big Sky doesnt' have black players (yes, I can read into this) with tattoos, etc...

With all due respect to SloStang and the other Poly folk we see here, I think I'm rooting for EWU. The reason I am doing so is that an EWU loss might have the effect of lowering the 'ranking' (for lack of a better word) of the BSC, thus reducing the likelihood of four BSC teams making the playoffs.

I hate to do it, but I have to agree with this. If EWU loses and drops to a 4-5 seed, the odds of another BSC team getting seeded are pretty slim. If EWU wins out and ends up with the 2 seed, and the Griz win out they could easily get the 6-8 seed.

Agreed. If Eastern can win their next 2 games and lock in a top 3 seed, it makes our close game against them look better. No way another BSC team gets seeded if Eastern drops to 4-8 range.
