BSU's "meaningless" Fiesta Bowl payday $18 million

UMass completely miscalculated and missed important signs and trends. Don't know what they were thinking. Wonder how long it will take them to recover, if they ever do.
UMass didn't miscalculate badly. They never intended to move all their sports to the MAC like the MAC wanted (the MAC wanted Temple and UMass as an eastern pair), so they MAC kicked them out after Temple left as UMass properly refused to leave the A10 in other sports, which pays much higher.

The whole time, UMass had their eyes on the American, the Big East football successor. When UConn didn't get an invite to the ACC, that was where UMass miscalculated. But now there have been reports the Cincy and Memphis may get invites to the Big 12. UMass would be near the top of potential invitees if the happens. UMass didn't make the FBS decision lightly: TV execs told that it was the proper move to position themselves later. Even CUSA might have interest in UMass, with UAB gone. Montana doesn't have that luxury of multiple conferences needing them in the future.

As I said, UMass miscalculated badly (and several times). Jeez, even you said in your second para that UMass miscalculated. UMass miscalculated on what would happen with several conferences, what would happen by playing games at Gillette, fan interest, the quality of team they would produce, and the changing football landscape. Do you think UMass planned to win only 5 games in 3 years? At least, they played a few teams a bit tougher last fall. Attendance sucked again, but was helped by over 30,000 for the BC game.

UMass miscalculated the direction the NCAA was headed, but they knew where they wanted to be....and it wasn't the American because when the decision was made it didn't exist. It was the Big East. The irony here is they are perfectly happy in the A-10, not the C-USA nor the American w/o the Big East basketball schools.

I just read through UNDfan's, aka Darell1976 ( the lakesbison of UND), comments.

You are so god dam delusional that I almost feel sorry for you. UND, who is currently pulling in 6-7k in real attendance , with a stadium that can not even hold the minimum requirement for FBS football, is not going anywhere FBS in the future, like most of the big sky teams. UM maybe has a chance because they have A.) an FBS quality stadium and B.) fan support. A conference move up is not even allowed by the NCAA, so how the hell do you even think a big sky move up is possible ?

Stop with the delusions and focus on winning a meaningful FCS game.

As far as the big sky goes , NDSU does not fit the geographic footprint which is why the summit / Missouri valley conference is beneficial for them. I think with NDSU's new basketball arena and recent success , the Missouri Valley basketball conference is their long term goal, not the dam BiG Sky.

As far as UNDfan's NDSU Minnesota hypothesis goes....what a Fing joke. Did Minnesota miss out on some kids ? Maybe, but so did all the other FBS schools that recruit in Minnesota along with FCS schools. This year's recruiting class had multiple kids turning down FBS offers to go to NDSU. Ben Ellefson has an offer from freaking Purdue and is turning it down . Maybe some kids want to go to NDSU because it is a good program.

Someone brought up UM being able to beat NDSU on recruits. Funny thing is UM started recruiting Minnesota and not beat NDSU on a single recruit from there as far as I am aware. Look up this year's verbals for NDSU from Minnesota. Most had UM offers.

You're not very aware then.

Oh, and....ooooooooooooooooohhhhhh.....freaking Purdue? :? :?

When a MWC school plays Boise State and ESPN broadcasts it, each team gets $500,000 for the game. Other member schools not in the Mountain Division complain about the money that Boise State gets but those in the Mountain Division are extremely happy with the arrangement as they get a taste every year. Boise State is a cash cow for the conference by making deals with ESPN that benefits all in the long run. I think that every home game was on ESPN and some of the away games. BSU gets a million or more from their season opening games that ESPN promotes such as the one this last fall in Atlanta against Ol' Miss.

If another school joins the MWC, it would pay to be in the division with the Broncos. I doubt if the MWC expands until the Big 12 (10) or Pac12 expands. Montana should be ready if the landscape looks to change. If UM were in the MWC,the Broncos would come to pay the Griz and would bring a half million dollar check and the game on national TV.

I'm sorry, sir, but the anti-move up crowd is only interested in the "expense" side of the balance sheet.

Another temper tantrum from a bison fan. How novel!!!

The MVC won't even look at NDSU for basketball, which rules the roost. They want new teams to be in big market cities. not pretentious little villages.

UND's IPF next to the old Memorial Stadium is just the beginning, mark my words!

NDSU basketball has 2 NCAA trips in 5 years with 1 huge win over #20 Oklahoma that makes 3 top 20 wins in 7 years and a $44 million dollar basketball arena.

MWC basketball will love that just fine.

NDSU is a perfect MWC fit, Montana alone with NDSU are the only 2 fan bases they want.

They want neither; they want Texas.
