I've never understood the "we're just little ole Montana so there's no way we can be successful" line of thinking.

Not saying we can't, but I bet the people that supported Idahos moving up thought very similarly. Personally I think AzGrizFans prediction of 8-4 is pretty close. But what if he isn't? How long can this program survive if we have a bunch of 5-6 or 6-5 years until we become as irrelevant as Wyoming?

Aren't we already much less relevant than Wyoming in the grand scheme? That sums it up for me.

So our goal is to become Wyoming? God help us.

I can't speak for the program, but personally, I would like to see UM can become a good FBS program on par with a team like Nevada. I think that is a realistic goal that we cannot reach playing in the Big Sky. I agree with you that UM could certainly fail, but that doesn't really concern me. I guess I'd just like to see UM sack up and try.

Or is sharing in someone else's bowl game payoff enough for you? Boy that's something to brag about, "yeah we were 5-6 this year but dang we got big money from some other teams bowl game! And we got beat by some 'quality' teams too, woohoo." Where is the proof that we'd be the next Boise St? We have just as good of a chance ending up the next Idaho as anything else. Where will the revenue come from for increased annual costs (probably well over $5 million by now) and new and improved facilities? Tell us why Montana will be successful in recruiting and winning. In the overall realm of college football, the FCS playoffs are just as irrelevant as the Butterfinger Bowl. The fun thing about the playoffs is that if you make a deep run there are several more game to look forward to and cheer on your team. Whereas, if you make a bowl game in FBS then there's only one more game to root your team on. The bonus of FBS is, win or lose, at least you're playing quality, entertaining teams compared to what most of the FCS has to offer.

Agree with all but the last. There are shitty teams in both the FBS and FCS. I love playoff football.
