As to the kneelers, who exactly is in favor of shooting unarmed black men? But doing their protest during the national anthem is in direct descent from Kaepernik, who said he couldn't stand for a flag or a nation that oppressed black men.
Except it's the same flag that led to the bloodiest war in our history to end slavery, and was followed by the civil rights marchers to end Jim Crow and segregation. I am fine with protesting, but if you do it during the national anthem, you are throwing it in my face as a veteran. You disrespect the same flag that draped the coffins of my fellow soldiers when they are returned home after being ordered to go by their country.
If they did their kneeling before or after, it would be a lot better. But how about this - let's start a campaign to end the greatest cause of death of black men - other black men. We could take a knee right after the anthem as a sign of showing respect for the country and acknowledging we have to do more.
Win - win.
