Proud Veteran, proud 49er season ticket holder. I enjoy the National Anthem, and the flag holds a sentiment in my heart, but I am tired of the recent sanctimony. I have watched for years as America has plastered the flag on anything and everything to make a buck without so much as a peep from these newfound outraged "patriots." I saw it on a thong bikini, and many seemed to like it just fine wedged up the crack of a buxom female. No one said a word. I see it exploited with the images of flag draped coffins of veterans who did not return home in bullshit memes. These men and women had no chance to approve of the imagery, and not me, nor anyone has the right to assume how they felt. Using the fallen for political gain offends me more than anything that has been done in the NFL. It reminds me of Saving Private Ryan when they go through the dog tags like poker chips in front of the 101st Airborne; tactless. But those memes are pro America right? Because we say so? I see it plastered on Budweiser cans that are eventually crumpled up and tossed in the trash can on Sunday. None of you cared. Don't pretend you did. The only mistake these men made was expecting a cerebral response from a certain demographic. I may not like it, I may not get it, but that doesn't invalidate the message behind it. Respect the flag? Give me a break.

Go get'em Brock!

Proud veteran as well. As I said earlier, I like protests at my football games like I like protests on the highway while trying to get to work. There's a time and place, and the gridiron is neither--but more power to 'em. The NFL is about to drop the hammer, so we'll see how it all ends up.

Ya you're really making a great argument towards being enlightened

Go make the men here a sandwich, will ya? 8-)

Yah maybe you can pay me for it with the money you lost to me on a football bet. Must feel bad to know less about a "mans" game than a woman

This has nothing to do with football. Figured even you could figure that out.

Nice deflection on your ignorance. I thought it was about a sandwich or me being a woman?

What is it about then? Is it about a flag, an arbitrary peice of cloth that you think soldiers fight and die for? Is it about you being mad at black people? Is it you being angry they kneel during a song that was plagiarized from a drinking song and speaks about a war you know nothing about? You think this is about the military but you know nothing of what the national anthem is about. You don't know the history or the facts. You just blindly support something that you think resembles something that is important but you are mistaken.

Yes if the people kneeling were disrespecting the military then I would be mad. I come from a military family. You just want to be mad at them because you support a political agenda that doesn't want to talk about the real issue... and that's racial discrimination. But keep putting your shaders on old man.

Lol...read my post above, dipshit. I'm not mad at them. In fact, I couldn't care less...I hate the fucking NFL anyway. As far as I'm concerned, they could cancel the whole season and it wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit. But for the NFL its about money, and when THAT starts getting effected, stand by the the powers that be to drop the hammer on those guys.

Keep on making shit up about what I do and don't know, though. It's really served you well so far. :finger: :liar: :troll: :stupid: :whocares: :fuel: :flash:

Sporting events become semi political the moment you include the National Anthem. The answer is simple: don't have the anthem anymore, and problem solved. Disclaimer: That was mostly sarcasm. I do not want them to remove the anthem. However, there is an element of truth in that we would rather they be insincere, and stand when they feel they should kneel because it makes us more comfortable. The flag doesn't care if you respect it, and the pretense of doing so when you believe there is injustice is wrong.

As a veteran you know what I know. We have our traditions, and we are proud of them. However, we are exploited far too frequently for political gains. Recently they tried to use Pat Tillman's image (for the one billionth time), and his widow put a stop to it. Good for her. However, if political protest can seep into the military, it can certainly seep into football. I find one to be far more sacred than the other.

Agreed on seeing how it all ends up. I am curious to the next steps of both parties, and am hoping for an amicable solution. I foresee some BS donation to some fund, and we all pretend everything is good again for a while. The American way.

Agreed on your first paragraph. The military PAID the NFL to begin including the anthem to tie the two (NFL & military) more closely together, along with the honor guard, the flyovers, etc., etc.....THAT is exploitation at its finest. I'd be fine with them eliminating it altogether....just fucking play football.

Go Grizzlies.

This is still a fucking thing. Is there anything that could flop anyone to the other side? My guess is no. Both sides are right and completely filled with dickholes that demand to be right.

Congrats to Brock.

As a former NFL fan, I only follow our Griz.

It's amazing how much I get done on Sundays now. :thumb:

As a 49er fan I am saddened by the release of a great linebacker in Navarro Bowman. But, as a Grizzly fan I am super stoked that his release paves the way for Griz standout Brock Coyle.
As a former 49er fan dating back to when Y.A. Tittle was the QB, I am saddened by their behavior re. the national anthem. I have no use for the NFL or ESPN. Done.
With you on this one

Huh?

Players bring attention to policemen killing blacks and getting wrists slapped/paid leave

And certain fans twist it into blind nationalism and boycott games/the league?!

Unbridled angst at people protesting a valid injustice?

WTH is wrong with some of you people?!
Let them protest at the police station .. we watch the game for football ... period

Point out where the National Anthem mentions the support of racism or condoning the actions of a few rogue cops.

If all the players protested 10 minutes before the anthem from the start, this conversation wouldn't exist.

Kaepernick is a moron, and has attracted many other morons from other teams that have no clue about anything. The NFL has supported them from the start, as they are $$$$$ to the NFL... The "Godfather" Jerry Jones is only softening his stance because he's bleeding cash.

To hell with them, end their tax break.

Yeah, keep your protest where I can’t see it because I don’t want anything upsetting my delicate white sensibilities and making me feel bad.

You know that this impacts many people for many reasons. Having said that, I watch a football game for the game. I am neither a hard right nor a hard left political person.

I DONT CARE about their politics or their personal views when they come on the field. I don't care about their black lives, white lives, brown lives, transgendered lives, gay lives, unprivileged lives, priveledged lives, or any other real or imagined problem.

Could care less for women's rights, or men's rights, or any other social problem, real or imagined.

If they can not just play football like they are paid to do then we all have the right to turn the TV off and spend more of our time and resources as we see fit.

They can protest what ever they want to protest to who ever is left that really cares for that political activists nonsense.

I'm a veteran and I don't feel disrespected by people who are using their social capital to protest against injustice. The players are on the right side of this issue and Scrump is trying to make it something it isn't.
Could someone explain WHAT THE ACTUAL ISSUE REALLY IS they are grieving? Everyone is kneeling but they don't know why.

Please use real life examples.

Lots of people say things like this yet you are still mad they are protesting during a national anthem that has nothing to do with the game. Their protest doesn't change the game at all, so your point is sort of hypocritical

Perhaps a little off topic, given what has happened to this tread, but Brock had six tackles today, including one that resulted in lost yardage.

I did not say that I am mad that they are protesting (fill in the blank) during the anthem ... you are saying that.

I am saying that I DO NOT CARE "what" they are protesting or "why" they are protesting it ... not interested at all .. doesn't register on my value scale. I don't care about their politics any more than I care about yours. I just want to watch a drama free social event for fun, and if I can't then I will watch other things and forget about them.

I am not a prisoner of that stuff or those people ... it is true ... the political activism doesn't change the games out come ... but I don't have to be a part of that nonsense any way, I don't have to think about somebody else's political activism and I most certainly don't intend to watch it.

Just saying, [emoji4]
