MISSOULA, Mont. - A source close to the situation confirm to NBC Montana that Bobby Hauck received and accepted an offer to be head coach of the University of Montana Grizzly football team.

The source spoke to us on condition of anonymity, but said the deal still needs to be signed off on by the Board of Regents.

A Board of Regents employee said there’s currently no meeting scheduled until January. She added that a quorum of regents must approve the contract in order for him to be hired.
Hauck interviewed for the job on Monday of this week.

The now 53-year-old Missoula native held an impressive 80-17 record at the helm of Montana football from 2003-2009, which included seven straight Big Sky Conference Championships.

After leaving Montana for the head coaching job at UNLV, where he remained for five seasons, Hauck has spent the last three seasons as special teams coordinator for San Diego State and has also served as an associate head coach for that program the past two years.

SDSU just wrapped up their regular season with a 10-2 record. The Aztecs have won 10 or more games all three seasons that Hauck has been with the program and will be looking to win their third straight bowl game to end this season.

Hauck also interviewed for the Griz head coaching job back in 2014 when the program chose Stitt to be Mick Delaney's replacement.

Does Haslam have a clue how stupid this all looks? They can't get it done and release it....save damn press conference for later. Let the coach start to work on staff and recruits for God's sake. CC take five minutes and sign it....

Thought that was weird as well. I'd imagine they'll have a special meeting in order to get him approved quickly.

Only in Montana would you see a coaching hire as dysfunctional as this has been.

Apparently you’ve missed the news, Tennessee is a little further down that trail than Montana.

Check out what’s going on at Tennessee...

It's not the BOR. It's the commissioner of higher education, Clay Christian. Here's the verbiage Sample added to the story:

Hauck’s contract is pending approval from the Commissioner of Higher Education, yet an official announcement from the Montana athletic department is expected for Friday. Clayton Christian, the commission of higher education, was a part of Montana's interview process and is expected to approve the contract.
