I hate to make ronbo sound right and Tinkle sound afraid but...

"Yesterday, when we walked out of the office, the last thing I said is, 'I sure hope we don't get Pacific,' " Tinkle told reporters Tuesday in Missoula. "My first year here, I think in '01, they beat us by 20 (actually 77-64). They've gotten better. They're just a great, great program.

"I know they're a little down this year. Their record reflects that, but they're still a very, very talented team, and it's going to be a big challenge for us."

You obviously haven't spent a lot of time around coaches. They talk like that all the time. It has to be taken tongue and cheek. If you knew Tinkle at all the last thing you would say about Wayne is that he is afraid to compete. Please

I'm not saying he's afraid. I'm just tossing a quote up. No coach is actually really afraid to play anyone; if they were, they wouldn't be coaching. I'm just saying this quote lacks some confidence.

Now you are playing the semantics game. You are an spiring Sports Journalist I belive. Do yourself a favor and go meet Wayne. You will find out pretty quickly you are missing the boat with your analysis. I think you will walk away pretty impressed with Tinks. :thumb:

I've met him. I wasn't overly impressed. I'm not saying I don't like him or that I wasn't just plain impressed. He came off as a good guy and I could see how these quotes could be a bit of sarcasm at the end of a long day. Even so, "these guys are a good team, a win over them would really reflect well on our program" would sound better.

I bet if Tinks had to play Kansas or UNC or Florida or UCLA then he would be a little afraid.

Agreed, but not too afraid. I mean he'd see it as a challenge. If you lose, nothing really lost bc that's what everyone expected. If you win, it looks great. Hell, Oral Roberts beat Kansas. And where's the WI love? They are gettin no respect this year. Sure consistent top 5 ranking but everyone is just jumping over them as they switch the #1 spot.

I guess if cliches turn you on, then you must love Dick Vitale.

3/4 of sports interviews are cliche.
More than that.

This wasn't cliche? "I know they're a little down this year. Their record reflects that, but they're still a very, very talented team, and it's going to be a big challenge for us."

And who in the their right mind likes Dick Vitale?

What you suggested he should say that would sound better is all cliche. I prefer the Coaches be who they are.

Coaches never say what they mean. In his actual quote he either means "Damn, we drew these guys. They're good and we're probably going to lose" or he meant "we're on a roll, they lost all their talent, they're having a down year and we're gonna beat em so I'm going to talk them up a bit so I don't sound arrogant."

I think he meant what he said. That he would prefer not having those games in the middle of the conference season. It isn't rocket science to understand how hard it is to win 3 straight in the BSC Tournament which means you have to finish 1st or second to get an automatic bye. Why are you so determined to put words in his mouth? :werd:

Inside those quotes he made no mention of not wanting the games at all. Now who's putting words in his mouth?

I know he doesn't want it... but in the quotes i mentioned he doesn't say it. but this is kind of going to blow. i really like the idea of playing pacific but that stretch is going to be a little rough. btw, anyone interested in college hoops, turn on altitude Indiana is up 42-40 on WI.

That is a good game, Stanford/Gonzaga could be pretty interesting too. No way can the Zags handle the twin 7 footers for Stanford. I don't think Stanford will have a letdown after the big win over UCLA. If they play like that they could snap Gonzagas win streak at home.
