I figured there would be a schedule out by now. Apparently this isn't something very high on anybody's agenda.

Here's a website that claims the schedule was going to be out 30 minutes ago:

Excuse my ignorance, but, I thought the games that were going to be on TV were going to be announced today, and those games not going to be on TV were going to be announced tomorrow (tuesday). So, I suspect, us Griz fans won't know who we play until tomorrow, if I am right.

At least that was my understanding.

Yeah. non-tv games will be announced tommorrow. Here's how EWU feels about the bracket buster game by Dave Trimmer our Spokesman Review blogger...I concur.

Dear ESPN Bracket Buster Committee
Dear ESPN;

Eastern Washington basketball fans are on pins and needles awaiting their Bracket Buster pairings.

They're having a hard time deciding where they would like you to send their Eagles.

Big things were expected of this team, but it's plodding along with an 11-11 record.

Would it be possible to send it to Iona, which is 0-20?

If you don't want Iona in this showcase would you consider Texas San Antonio?

It would be a good barometer for the team since UTSA lost to both Gonzaga and Washington State.

Also, considering Eastern doesn't play defense, wouldn't it be great to check out the contrast of a team that doesn't play offense?

Eastern gives up 83.5 ppg and UTSA scores 57.1, both are ranked 323 out of 325 NCAA teams in those categories.

If matching opposites doesn't do it, how about trying the East vs. West layup drill?

We're talking Virginia Military Institute and Eastern Washington University.

Both are entertainly average.

EWU is 11-11; VMI 10-13.

EWU is No. 3 in offense at 85.9; VMI is No. 1 at 103.1

EWU is 323 in defense at 83.5; VMI is 325 at 98.0.

As for individual story lines, EWU sophomore sensation Rodney Stuckey is No. 7 in scoring at 24.0. Reggie Williams of VMI is No. 2 at 28.7.

Since not much good comes out of Bracket Buster other than disrupting the rhythm of the conference season and spending lots of money for late travel to a meaningless game, one of these matchups would do wonders for the psyche of the Eagles. Besides, it would be a nice gesture toward the NBA to have some scouts on the East Coast to have an easy chance to catch Rodney's game.

So what do you say? Step up to the plate and provide basketball fans with the matchup they didn't know they wanted until now.

Sincerely,

Dave Trimmer

Tinkle briefly commented on bracketbusters during his radio show. The U of M and BSC is very disappointed over not being on TV. The conference feels very let down by ESPN, especially when the GRIZ have back to back NCAA appearances to show. I did not hear all Tinkle's comments, but gathered that BSC officials are going to voice their opinion very strongly.

Tinkle sounded disappointed, but was very professional in speaking out. He certainly did not ruffle any feather's. Or put himself in position to be suspended (shot intended at ISU coach).

I will not be surpised if the BSC withdraws from from future Bracketbusters. Kind of amazing how right LK was when he voiced his concerns about it. What a joke this is for the BSC!!!!! 1st ESPN makes a mockery of our FCS game against U Mass. Once again they screw the BSC best team over the last 3 years!!! Sometimes I love ESPN, but hate them when it comes to coverage and respect for Universities in this region (with the exception of Gonzaga).

First off, nobody from the BSC deserved to be on TV this year.

Secondly, Montana may have gotten the short end last year, but NAU was given a TV game. So the BSC has gotten a little bit of pub because of the BracketBusters.

Finally, this is a guaranteed game against an opponent that is on par with yourself - and then a rematch the following year. It's near impossible to get decent matchups as a mid-major anymore. That's the main reason why teams and conferences are willing to sign up. It fills their schedule and you are rewarded depending on how well you play.

IMHO I believe this would be much better if the mid level Majors were to play mid majors and small conference programs. That would help determine which conferences deserve 5 plus bids or if there is a midmajor or less team team truly deserving. Maybe even, boost the rpi of lesser conferences. Get rid of the cellar dwellars.

I appreciate what Brackbusters is supposed to accomplish, but the way it is set up, not enough participants benefit for what it costs the participants. LK spoke up against it, and in hindsight LK appears to be right on the $. Until the NCAA is willing to consider multiple bids for smaller conferences, bracketbuster does nothing for the BSC. The only thing it does now is mess with conference scheduling, and costs $ to travel.

Match BSC teams against the likes of WAC, MWC, Pac 10, MO Valley, MAC, Big 12, Big 10, Conf USA, etc then it would be much more valuable. Why doesn't that happen? Are the bigger conferences scared of losing to a so called lesser conference?

There is no need to put TOP 25 programs or cellar dwellars in this. What would it hurt to put all midlevel programs in this, regardless of conference ties? As it is now, I will be hoping for a worthy opponent coming into Missoula, tv or not!!!!

I think it would be better for some of the major teams on the bubble to be involved also.

But there's no advantage for them doing this, so they won't sign up. You're right, this doesn't help BSC teams out a whole lot. The only potential is improving your seeding IF you win the BSC tourney.

But also, there's still the guaranteed game against a similar strength opponent. I think that's more than worth it for many of these mid-major schools.

And the pairings are up!

Pacific.

Maybe good for next year, but not this year. Oh well, I suppose it's a good regional game for Montana.

Better than SJSU.

Other BSC matchups:

San Jose State @ Northern Arizona

Portland State @ Cal Poly

Eastern Washington @ UC Santa Barbara

Frankly, while I find it mildly interesting to see who the Griz play, this late during the conference season it seems to be a game that is "out of place"...

And I don't think ESPN is consciously doing anything to denegrate the BSC or UM. On the contrary, UM has been the BSC's ESPN pet university... :twocents:

I have followed Pacific for the last few years and watched them play several games since they are relatively close by. Pacific is not having the type of season they have become accustomed to, they are very well coached and will be a good test. Re/Max has mentioned a couple of their key players, although you should add White to the list as he has been in double figures the last couple of games. Their Coach is a veteran and will have his team prepared. Bob Thomason is in his 19th season at Pacific, and has the most wins in school history with 310. He has been named Big West Conference Coach of the Year five times (1992-93, 1996-97, 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06).

 I think it was Pacific vs Pittsburg just before Griz played University of Washington in the NCAA Tournament in Boise. Two years ago 2005.

If so I was very impressed by Pacific. Lots of Big People shooting big shots. But the shots did not drop vs Washington on Sat two days later. Must be in a rebuild. Most likely improving as there should be no reason that they would not be able to recruit after the season they had that year.

Well the best part of this game is I can wager with my niece who attends pacific university. Then when we beat them I can wear my Griz gear to her graduation this spring :thumb:

You are correct. The Tigers were led by Christian Maraker and David Doubley. Pacific was pretty deadly from the 3 point line that season. Maraker was the stud of the team. He average in double figures all 4 seasons at Pacific and really helped put them on the Hoops Map.

Pacific has an unbelievable program.

In 03-04, they beat 5th seeded Providence
In 04-05, they beat 8th seeded Pitt
In 05-06, they lost to 4th seeded BC after blowing a 6 point lead in overtime.

Don't be fooled by their record, they have played their fair share of tough games including Texas A&M, New Mexico St., Wisconsin, Nevada, St. Louis, and Santa Clara.

Kind of a snoozer this year becuase there won't be many implications after the outcome, but should be an interesting game next year.

Wow, this looks like it's going to be a great game.

What's with Tinkle on TV tonight. He's afraid to play Pacific. Not happy with it at all. Acts like it's going to be a loss, that's sure the way he came across. No toughness there that's for sure.
