Boise state

Moving up would be a disaster, particularly with the current conference availabilities. Look at the the former FBS programs that have moved up. It’s like they disappeared from the face of the Earth: Marshall, Georgia Southern, Sam Houston St., App St., etc. Are you telling me that they’re better off than they were before? In many cases their attendance has gone down since moving up. Even though football pulls the cart, people tend to forget that EVERY sport moves up, not just football. Say goodbye to NCAA tournament participation in hoops and volleyball except in rare circumstances. Let’s say you have a great football season. At best, you’re playing in a nothing bowl very few people care about. Say goodbye to ever even sniffing a chance for a national championship.
Unless a new conference is formed that would make a move up to FBS attractive and viable, UM & MSU would be nuts to move to FBS anytime soon. Boise State is an unusual exception and let’s not forget it’s been nearly 39 years since they left the Big Sky Conference. Sometimes the best move is to not move at all.
Troy St. Old Dominion, Sam Houston, Sam Houston. Is even Coastal doing okay?

Here are the 15 that moved up since 2008 (thru 2023). 5 with losing records. 2 with 7 wins. This is some posters 97%, I guess. Look at the Bowl games. Liberty did well in 2023.

That’s a great article. Shows that the ones who made the jump with similar fan support and facilities have done pretty well. Those that don’t? Meh. Didn’t App State just expand their stadium recently? I wonder if their season tickets and revenue have dropped. Like I said, probably too late anyway, but I doubt a dystopian BSC would reject the MT schools if they decided to get back in their cage after giving it a go at the upper level. 🤷‍♂️

App St has very good attendance and everything has gone up. I would guess it's the best of the mover uppers.

Perhaps not. But shouldn't that be the point?

Boise went from a backward directional university which was perpetually third in a 3 school race in tiny, meaningless Idaho to what it is today: one of the largest non-flagship universities in the west. It still sucks academically, but they have money to burn.

And all of that can be traced to one event: their move to the fbs.

So if that isn't the point, I'm not exactly sure what is.
The point was that Boise had a much larger and deeper untapped base to reach out to and it has only grown in the time sense. I don't think that you can say the same about Montana.
