It's a step up. Better facilities. Larger budget. Better pay for assistants and a better likelihood of being able to keep key assistants on staff. It's in the best "mid major" conference. Same reasons we lost Glen to Wyo.
Saying that, I think NDSU would thump Wyoming if they played today. Wyoming is a difficult place to build a successful program. Laramie is a difficult place to recruit to and has a tough time beating out the Colorado schools for local recruits. Comparing Laramie to Fort Collins, Boulder, Bozeman, Missoula, or just about any other college town in this area of the country, it really lacks in livability. Wyoming is also the smallest state in terms of population and is very spread out, which makes it even tougher to build a fan base and fill the stadium.
A big asset that Bohl brings to the table is his recruiting connections and track record of developing talent, which is always a strong selling point when talking to recruits. He also has a system and knows how to get kids to buy into it. If Wyoming stays patient with him, I think he could get Wyoming to be a contender in the MWC in 3 or 4 years.
I hope he succeeds. I'd like to see Wyoming do well. It is a good and important school and it would be nice for the state of Wyoming to have something to rally around.
