Bobby Petrino Fired (Reasons Given!)

Silvertip said:
Razorback AD gave a laundry list of reasons: including BP unfairly hiring his bike riding mistress to whom he purportedly gave $20,000 along the way, misleading him (the AD) - and the public on numerous occasions. Says Petrino was fired "with cause" meaning no cushy million $ buyout. The guy has never put much credence in contracts anyway when ducking them worked to his advantage. He may be from a well known Helena family, but the guy's really pretty slimy... I feel for them.

And BTW, the Arkansas AD has proven to be a hell of a lot more transparent than our R. Engstrom in dealing with, ahem..."internal matters."

I hate to tell you this, but it is none of your business why anybody was fired...

The transparency issue is iron-clad fact. Get over it, Put any judgemental spin on it you like, but the unintended consequences of Engstrom's stonewalling has been as predictable as robins in spring. Perception is reality and the minions who believe Main Hall has no obligation to any but its own shouldn't be surprised by the outcry. Most Americans assume they still live in a country where the accused are not found guilty until both accuser and defendant have their say - except maybe UM... BTW, I'm still waiting for someone to answer the question: Would Royce Engstrom have engaged in a highly-publicized double dip firing if he hadn't done so knowing full well that his actions would be protected by the institutional veil of secrecy euphemistically labeled as "an internal matter :?: "

Whatever O'Day and Pflugrad may or may not be guilty of is a separate matter that the resident lunkheads seem unable to distinguish not because of what Engstrom did, but the inexplicable and heavy-handed way in which he did it. I don't mind at all telling you this - but any action is a hell of a lot easier when you know you won't have to answer to anybody for it.

Furthermore, don't drag Bobby Petrino's sorry a$$ into the conversation..

^can't claim that, found on another site. good stuff.

The surprising thing is that they're apparently not blood relatives.

a) "heavy handed" would have been shitcanning them and not just letting their contracts run out.
b) NO organization is under ANY obligation to tell you or anyone else why someone was fired. You want to know so bad? Go become Engstrom's executive assistant.
c) I find it fucking comical that you would chastise someone for dragging Bobby Petrino's name into a conversation that's titled "Bobby Petrino Fired" and was started by YOU! :? :? :? :? :?

Engstrom didn't "just let their contracts run out." Pflugrads contract was through December O'day's was June or July.

Also, you can't tell me, that any supervisor in today's world does not make sure their ducks are in a row legally before they fire or not rehire an employee. This country is filled with ambulance chasers who have nothing else to do but line up behind the next person who is injured or fired to get them a nice settlement. Engstrom is not that stupid and his silence on the matter proves it.

Precisely. The contracts will be allowed to run out instead of being terminated. Terminating would have been "heavy handed".

Surely, AZgf, you are not so naive as to not understand where this increasingly tedious thread jumped the tracks...It began when poison from polson said, in part "..it is none of your business why anybody was fired..." Well, he sure as hell wasn't talking about Petrino because everybody in the world from Missoula to Mongolia has already heard the litany of his transgressions from Arky AD Long...So who does that leave us with by the process of elimination? Let me seeeee...who could that possibly be :?: :?: :?: Does educating the uneducatable always have to be like pulling their un-wisdom teeth?

And, yeah like I said before, leave Bobby P out of the discussion. That's not where the unanswered questions of UM fans are... only the clueless would think otherwise.

Dude, you're like arguing with my wife. Always moving the target.

Petrino's "litany of transgressions" were brought out by Long because they were already part of the public record. Don't be so obtuse. 8-)

Dude asks when does the conversation gets around to UM, not Arkansas about which GrizNation doesn't give a rodent's butt. Stay on point - if that's possible.

Since some of you apparently think handling issues in this way is normal protocol for Presidents dealing with NCAA athletics, can you give me one other example where a head football coach OR athletic director is fired and no reason is given and no press conference is held?

Wrong. Give me another example of this happening in this industry. Firing an athletic director and head coach cannot be compared to firing an employee at your landscaping business.

Ask MSU how it went for them by giving cause for Kramer's firing. Believe it cost them some money. UM decided to relieve them of there duties now and not renew there contracts when they expire. Nuff said. And firing an athletic director and coach can be compared to any business, including an employee at a landscaping business. As the employer, you say as little as possible to protect yourself. A company I do some contract work with right now says very little if called for a reference on a past employee. All they say is that the employee worked here from start date to end date. They are a huge corporation who has learned that the less you say (both negative and positive), the less trouble you have down the road.

EVERYTHING Engstrom says can and will be used against him if this thing goes legal. Perhaps the ONLY smart thing he's done besides letting Pflu/O'Day go is keep his mouth shut about it.

it's like BN five years ago.

are some of you guys just pretending to still not get it or did you REALLY not see this in the works? without any inside information, i think the head football coach and AD were fired because idiot players are in the news every other weekend for curb stompings, fights, dui's, bitings, rapes, gang rapes, etc.....

now i know that as a cat fan comments like this are automatically "trash talk" but come on. did you really not see this happening? it's over. it's done. coach is gone. AD too. you will get a new one. and i bet the landscape of um football changes. you'll still win a crap load of games because you have a great program. but you will do so without constant allegations and players running the show.

so funny. fwiw.....i thought kramer got screwed too. but he's gone and we moved on. you guys should too.

EXACTLY! I would venture to guess that if you pulled up the thread on bobcatnation in regards to Kramer's firing, it would look very similar to egriz the past 2 weeks. In fact, I would venture to say it would be almost identical. The difference I see is that Engstrom learned from Fields folley and kept his trap shut. I bet they are paying out the remainder of the contracts and it will be done with the possible exception of whether Pflugrad's supposed verbal agreement to an extension has any legs.

I agree. There were issues and the leaders were thrown on their swords. Happens all the time, especially in this business. The frustrating thing is all the hand wringing and complaining only slows down the healing process. The best thing to do is to sprint through your stages of grief and get to acceptance because they are not coming back, and Engstrom has the full backing of the Regents and the faculty in this situation. As well as most of the students and many boosters.
