Bobby Hauck (let's not derail it)

If Hauck didn't take the multi million dollar deal... I would be concerned about his mental health and decision making abilities.

The irony is he got that multi million dollar offer because he had success at Montana. Yet people seem to be happier with how we've done in the five years since.....even Pflu only had one fairly good season....and he did it with BH's recruits. Not one person here can say how Pflu would've done long term.....we simply don't know. We can believe.....but we dont know.

Absolutely agree!

Just for some perspective. Not all fans want bobby gone. I'd say it's 50/50 if not leaning more in bobbys favor. Here is a quote from a comment made in regard to his announcement that he would be stepping down.

- -Jeffrey Lebowski 14 hours ago

"Insanity = same methods expecting different results. Bobby was the best coach we have seen here in 20'years but until our university/donors see fit to support our program like a true Divison I program, we will get exactly what we put into it." --

Yes a fair amount of that flying around over there.

There are many Montanans who will not be giddy about hiring Bobby Hauck. Folks like Pat Williams and that guy who tried to get Pat confirmed as a regent, you know Steve Bullock.
Many of the people who believe Football is the root of all evil in Missoula point to last decade as when shit went bad. There aren't many crowds bigger than the one at Washington Grizzly, but the one gawking at Montana's alleged rape culture certainly is.
IT isn't all about boosters and big donors.

Don't make this political, please. The thread started out good and this seems off topic. Got anything to add about whether he'd be a good hire? I'd love to read it.

The average fan is going to be absolutely giddy when he is hired BECAUSE of his results here. So I agree it isn't about booster and big donors, but its also not about the politicians andover zealous anti-player group...meaning the femi group.

What is this "femi group", and how have its members been over-zealously anti-player?

I'm all for what he did in the past. Great work, almost won some chippers. Offense=boring. Defense=consistent, special teams=special. My personal opinion is that he would be better served as a ST coordinator at a big school. It's time to mix it up in my opinion. get some excitement in the offense. Keep Ty and Justin on board. Keep the majority of this good group we have coming in. Win the freaking conference, make playoff runs, and win in Frisco. Liked winning when he was here before, but it's time to change.

Holy Moses, some of you need to turn down the hyperbole on Bobby. I understand that he rubbed people the wrong way but look at his results. In my time there we won the Big Sky 5 straight years, went to the title two times, and really should have won it all in 2007 if we didn't get "Wofford'd." Our recruiting classes were very strong, shoot, my 2004 class included Bierman, Anderson, Wilson, Carpenter (all four still in the NFL) as well as guys who played in the CFL or short stints in the NFL (Dow, Stadnyk, etc.) The guy is a great head coach. Period. Did us players always love him? Absolutely not, he is kinda a dick, but I will go to my grave believing that Bobby made me the man I am today. He taught me discipline, respect, and hard work. For that I will always support him. Since Bobby left seemingly every other program has passed us up or moved up. In 2003 NDSU came back to beat us when they were a D-II team, now look where they are. I for one would have no problem with him being back in the head office to move us back where we belong.

Are there other deserving candidates? Absolutely and I wish them all luck as well. I have been very vocal in my support for Pease and Ty and I hope they both get legitimate chances at the job. I would support both of them as head coach. However, to say that Bobby would be a terrible choice, or that he is a bad coach is just not true. Each candidate has strengths and weaknesses and hopefully the right one is hired.

As for the off field issues, give me a damn break. There are around 110 guys in the facility for about 4-6 hours a day. If you expect 10 coaches to be following around all of the players the other 18 hours a day you are fooling yourself. Sometimes you have a few idiots and sometimes those idiots become friends and do idiotic things together amplifying their idiocy. When an idiot did that he was dealt with. The vast majority of us stayed out of the news. IMO this is a red herring.

Oh, and whoever used the term "entitlement culture," that is insulting and disrespectful to us players. Please do not make up nonsense like that. There was no "entitlement culture" ever. None. We worked for everything and knew it would be gone if we stopped working. As John Oliver would say, "SHAME ON YOU."

I totally agree with this post. I would rather see someone new, but can't argue with this. Truth be told, as long as program is clean and wins championships, I don't care all that much who coaches them.

Great post and this man has personal experience.

I have no problem with Bobby as HC, especially if he keep TY as DC on as his heir apparent and the rest or most of the rest of the current staff !!!

Bobby graduated his kids, was a stern disciplinarian, and we enjoyed a lot of success on the football field during his tenure from 2003-2009. I would like us to keep a few of Pflu's zone-read offense plays and continue to employ more mobile QB's like Jordy--gives an opposing D something else to worry about.

Chris Byers from KULR-TV in Billings, on an his annual pilgrimage to the PRCA's National Finals Rodeo at UNLV's Thomas and Mack Center last year, interviewed Bobby while Byers was in Vegas to cover The NFR.

Bobby said Montana will always be home, he remained a big GRIZ fan and followed UM, and he missed Missoula--as he put it, he, his wife and family had spent more time in Missoula that any other place they had lived. He seemed pretty sentimental about his time in Missoula as GRIZ HC !!!

Let's do (derail it).

He can make more money at the 1A level as a Special Teams coach ... and that's what he's good it.

I can share this as a FACT now. If Bobby Hauck ISN'T A finalist for the Griz' job, it is NOT because he didn't want to be. He will apply for the job. THAT is an undisputable fact at this point.
