Holy Moses, some of you need to turn down the hyperbole on Bobby. I understand that he rubbed people the wrong way but look at his results. In my time there we won the Big Sky 5 straight years, went to the title two times, and really should have won it all in 2007 if we didn't get "Wofford'd." Our recruiting classes were very strong, shoot, my 2004 class included Bierman, Anderson, Wilson, Carpenter (all four still in the NFL) as well as guys who played in the CFL or short stints in the NFL (Dow, Stadnyk, etc.) The guy is a great head coach. Period. Did us players always love him? Absolutely not, he is kinda a dick, but I will go to my grave believing that Bobby made me the man I am today. He taught me discipline, respect, and hard work. For that I will always support him. Since Bobby left seemingly every other program has passed us up or moved up. In 2003 NDSU came back to beat us when they were a D-II team, now look where they are. I for one would have no problem with him being back in the head office to move us back where we belong.
Are there other deserving candidates? Absolutely and I wish them all luck as well. I have been very vocal in my support for Pease and Ty and I hope they both get legitimate chances at the job. I would support both of them as head coach. However, to say that Bobby would be a terrible choice, or that he is a bad coach is just not true. Each candidate has strengths and weaknesses and hopefully the right one is hired.
As for the off field issues, give me a damn break. There are around 110 guys in the facility for about 4-6 hours a day. If you expect 10 coaches to be following around all of the players the other 18 hours a day you are fooling yourself. Sometimes you have a few idiots and sometimes those idiots become friends and do idiotic things together amplifying their idiocy. When an idiot did that he was dealt with. The vast majority of us stayed out of the news. IMO this is a red herring.
Oh, and whoever used the term "entitlement culture," that is insulting and disrespectful to us players. Please do not make up nonsense like that. There was no "entitlement culture" ever. None. We worked for everything and knew it would be gone if we stopped working. As John Oliver would say, "SHAME ON YOU."
