Bobby Hauck (let's not derail it)

Holy Moses, some of you need to turn down the hyperbole on Bobby. I understand that he rubbed people the wrong way but look at his results. In my time there we won the Big Sky 5 straight years, went to the title two times, and really should have won it all in 2007 if we didn't get "Wofford'd." Our recruiting classes were very strong, shoot, my 2004 class included Bierman, Anderson, Wilson, Carpenter (all four still in the NFL) as well as guys who played in the CFL or short stints in the NFL (Dow, Stadnyk, etc.) The guy is a great head coach. Period. Did us players always love him? Absolutely not, he is kinda a dick, but I will go to my grave believing that Bobby made me the man I am today. He taught me discipline, respect, and hard work. For that I will always support him. Since Bobby left seemingly every other program has passed us up or moved up. In 2003 NDSU came back to beat us when they were a D-II team, now look where they are. I for one would have no problem with him being back in the head office to move us back where we belong.

Are there other deserving candidates? Absolutely and I wish them all luck as well. I have been very vocal in my support for Pease and Ty and I hope they both get legitimate chances at the job. I would support both of them as head coach. However, to say that Bobby would be a terrible choice, or that he is a bad coach is just not true. Each candidate has strengths and weaknesses and hopefully the right one is hired.

As for the off field issues, give me a damn break. There are around 110 guys in the facility for about 4-6 hours a day. If you expect 10 coaches to be following around all of the players the other 18 hours a day you are fooling yourself. Sometimes you have a few idiots and sometimes those idiots become friends and do idiotic things together amplifying their idiocy. When an idiot did that he was dealt with. The vast majority of us stayed out of the news. IMO this is a red herring.

Oh, and whoever used the term "entitlement culture," that is insulting and disrespectful to us players. Please do not make up nonsense like that. There was no "entitlement culture" ever. None. We worked for everything and knew it would be gone if we stopped working. As John Oliver would say, "SHAME ON YOU."

This board can't handle someone making sense.

I can share this as a FACT now. If Bobby Hauck ISN'T A finalist for the Griz' job, it is NOT because he didn't want to be. He will apply for the job. THAT is an undisputable fact at this point.

You know this how? Not snark, honest question.

GG, anyone even slightly in the know, knows BH wants the UM job and has already been in contact with UM. As havgriz said, that is undisputable. My impression is that BH resigned now, in order to seek the UM job. Sure, UNLV may have also wanted to make a change after this dismal season, but he had time remaining on his contract and wouldn't have been easy to force out.

BH had two years left on his $700,000/year contract. Why would he dump $1.4 million in pay to come back to UM?

Not sure where you got those numbers but his base salary was $350,000/yr. He had some bonus money if he won the conference, became bowl eligible or won a NC. Not sure if that's what you meant. He might come back here but I don't think so. He could probably get a job in the NFL for about the same amount of money.

I can say from a very good source via the game today Bobby will NOT be the next Griz coach.
Ain't gonna be!

Good post :thumb: . I'm the one who used entitlement culture and I stand by it. It may be insulting but I feel it was true for the entire Griz family. I also don't buy the argument that there's so many guys that it's destined a few will commit violent acts. A better argument is combine all the other Griz athletic programs and compare their violent crime record to those of the football team during the Hauck era. Or, compare the Hauck era with Craig Bohl's era at NDSU. Some players ran into trouble there but nothing like what happened during Hauck's tenure. I don't want Hauck as coach, I'm on the new blood bandwagon.

Great post and this man has personal experience.
I totally agree.

Oh I don't know, Bohl's guys had their share of crap too...the Best Buy fiasco, voter fraud, numerous DUI's, resisting arrests...many questions about discipline kind of went away when they started winning championships...funny how that works isn't it?

Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, Las Vegas Sun

"Bobby Hauck’s new three-year contract will pay him an annual salary of $700,000, an increase of $200,000 per year over his old deal.

"The details of Hauck’s deal are in the agenda minutes for the Nevada Board of Regents’ special meeting scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24. Including all deferred compensation, the life of the proposed contract would be $2.25 million to $2.55 million."

I can't help but think he's now at the top of the list. I would love to see him back at the helm, however, without bringing that Rosey character in as offensive coordinator.

I just got back from the playoff game. I made it a point today to talk with as many GRIZ fans as I could at 3 different tailgates. I am not going to say who specifically said what, but I heard similar information from people I trust very much as to Hauck and this job. One of the tailgates was off the back road at the bottom of the hill. The other was at the GSA area. The other was one of our egrizzer's tailgate.

I am very sure, Bobby Hauck very much wants this job back and is committed to it. I am not sure who the other main candidates/finalists will be. Hauck, Pease, and Stitt are the 3 names I heard consistently that want this job. I really did not hear any opposition regarding Hauck or Pease, Stitt, really no negative comments, but really very little is known of him by our fan base. Don't be surprised if Hauck and Pease are among the final 5 to be decided from.

As for Hauck, the only thing holding him back would be some pretty high ranking administrative decision makers with the University and BOR. None of which are major contributors to the program. I heard many of the major contributors are behind both Pease and Hauck and want Gregorak and Green retained for the staff. 1 of those contributors is a $1 million plus contributor and from what I hear other's share his family's opinion.

Take this as you like, but within the next month, don't be surprised to see Hauck and/or Pease as serious finalists. By the way, feel free to bash me for not naming names. Sorry to say those names will not be revealed ever by me on egriz or in person.

Huge Hauck fan here; NOTHING would make me happier than to see Haucks return to Montana and consistent trips deep into the playoffs!!!! What about the strength and conditioning coach Gerber and Scott Grag? You'd think theyd be worth hanging onto, if not Hynson as well (he's better than Rosenbach as an O-coordinator IMO).

Not that it's even news at this point, as enough people know enough people, but I was able to get in touch with someone very close to BH via e-mail late last night, and he said "Yes, Bobby is most definitely going to seek the UM job." Now, for those of you saying you KNOW he will NOT be the next Griz head coach, I'm assuming you mean you KNOW Haslam won't hire him? I won't pretend for one second to know what Kent Haslam is going to do with the job, but I DO KNOW FOR A FACT, Kent is not the type of Athletic Director, or person for that matter, to be running around Washington-Grizzly Stadium this afternoon telling fans that Bobby WON'T be the next head coach. Like I said, I have no IDEA who Kent will hire, I just know Bobby is applying, and I also KNOW Kent isn't running around publicly saying Bobby WON'T get the job.

THE question that I think HAS to be ANSWERED, is not whether KENT HASLAM will entertain THOUGHTS of bringing Bobby back, BUT will Royce ALLOW it to HAPPEN. IF he does, THEN he SHOULD allow RP to be HIRED back in SOME capacity.

Agree on Engstrom's involvement, but note that Engstrom fired Pflu but not Bobby.

Agreed, but as far as I can tell, RP's biggest crime was not sharing information that he knew right away with the administration.....which, if considered a firing offense, would seem to raise some concerns with the king, re: bobby.
