How many of you will be pi$$ed if Stitt wins and he gets an extension?

Why or what has Stitt done to make sooo many of you soooooooo angry?
I hope he gets a 3year extension win or lose.

As Az griz pointed out almost everything folks complained about has been fixed so why not support this staff and these kids and get on board?

Those two posts were made about completely different topics and different times. They are correct with the exception of my one "probably." Are you just mad about something or are you just trying to find somewhere to analyze someone's points or posts on an informal forum? Even I do not do such analysis and I have an English degree...

Not mad, just pointing out that in one post you criticize a poster as being speculative after earlier posting something as speculative as this:

Even adding the word "probably" doesn't make it better as it is just another degree of pure speculation - the word "possibly" would be far more accurate. Stitt should get an extension if the Griz go 7-4 with either a playoff invitation or a win over the Cats. He can still do that. He has a chance. There is a rumor that Cookus may defect to UCLA next year. Gubrud will be back at EWU. Meier at UCD is very good.

We don't know who would have won if he played. I think it's probable that NAU wins. But, by that same logic we can make the argument that we were on our 4th string QB.

That's why it's stupid to play the "what if" game. At least Cookus had control of his own play. HE got himself ejected, he didn't get injured.

eGriz "Stitt needs to be fired" Arguments:

1) Can't win on the road. When he beats the 'scats on Saturday, he'll be 3-1 on the road this year in FCS games. Argument null and void.

2) Ended last season on a horrible slide and lost the locker room. When he beats the 'scats on Saturday he'll have ended THIS season winning 6 of 7, INCLUDING three road games. These players LOVE playing for him and it shows, both on the sidelines and in the locker room.

3) His defense sucks--they give up 30 points a game and 500 yards of offense a game and show no improvement and he won't fire Semore. Last four games, they're 3-1 and have given up 343, 298, 218 and 362 yards (306 average). 17, 41, 15, 14 points. They're 2nd in sacks. 1st in INT's. 2nd in RZ defense. 6th in YPG. 5th in rushing D.

4) He can't win the big game. NDSU, SDSU, EWU, MSU, NAU (and MSU this weekend). Okay, this one is a little week, but he hasn't had a ton of chances this year...EWU and WSU being the notable exceptions).

5) His offense is too complicated and too easily defended. This year they've scored 45, 56, 41, 45, 39, 41, 27, 17, 44. < 20 once. < 30 twice. > 40 SIX times. #1 in scoring offense. #4 in total offense. More RZ TD's than ANY TEAM in the conference.

6) He can't and won't make halftime adjustments. ISU: 21 points in 1st half, 10 in 2nd. WSU: 34 points in 1st half, 7 in 2nd. NAU: 172 yards in 1st half, 111 in 2nd. Weber: scored 6 in 1st half, 21 in 2nd half.

What else...I'm sure I'm missing some.

Haslam ought to be waiting in the tunnel to give Stitt a new 3-year contract after we smack down the skiddy kitties this weekend.

Correction to #3. His defense gave up 34 to NAU, not 41. And 7 to UNC, not 14. And 51 yards of offense to WSU in the 2nd half.

I just want to know what the next argument in this everchanging realm will be?

He’s aloof?
He wears the wrong color hat?
He’s a snob who lives up Miller Creek?
He hasn’t won an NC? (Never mind that neither did any of the previous three coaches...
He was hired by Haslam?

He doesn’t handle the media well?

Haha, didn't see your reply til just now but I was working on this post that shows if Gresch would've started and put up similar-ish stats to Phillips his numbers would be right there with Cookus and Gubrud.

Not BW, but as I've said in another thread, this year he leads the Big Sky in Yards/Attempt and TDs/Attempt, and if you control for games he's actually played in, he leads the conference in yards/game.

He's thrown a lot of INTs, though.

I seriously think he has the potential become a 2nd or even 1st team FCS All American next year.

He's got a fantastic chance at winning the Jerry Rice award if he balls out this weekend.

However I will give credit where it is due and Coach Stitt has earned a modicum of credit for the overall improvement the team has shown the last half of the season. Most notably to me is the apparent change in Stitt's own mindset in play calling and the unnecessary risks that are no longer being called!

HOWEVER, I said at the beginning of the year that the team must show significant improvement before an extension should be granted. At this point I do not believe that significant improvement is in evidence. If they win handily this weekend I might change my mind. Even then I would think a three year extension is excessive.

While I am a bit upset about all of the Mick Delaney critics, I actually wonder where the program would be if Robin Pfluhgrad had not been wrongly terminated?

Two other quick points need to be made. I am concerned about the idea that last year's team up and quit at the end of the year. This not only does not reflect well on last year's coaching but does a grave disservice to all of the young men who busted their butt's for our entertainment. They may not have been successful but to suggest they quit is pure bullshit!

The other point is that we need to accept the possibility that even with a win this week there is still no guarantee that the Griz will get an at large bid. If NAU wins this week I am not that confident UM gets a bid over Weber, NAU, or SUU. If the Committee takes 4 BSC teams I would think UM and EWU would battle for that last spot and given the head to head matchup I am not sure an 8-3 record will trump a 7-4 record with a win over that 8-3 team on the résumé.

Believe what you want...I’ve heard from a VERY reliable source (regarding the “quitting” and division between O and D) that’s exactly what happened...

And to quote a former presidential candidate regarding Pflu, “what difference, at this point, does it make?” It DOES. NOT. MATTER what this team would look like with him as coach. That’s 5-year old wishful thinking and he ain’t coming back. Ever. Never.

+1. Need to be able to beat a below. .500 team when you are 7-3 when playoffs are on the line and you have had a year to figure out how to contain a 1 dimensional QB. If he does that.... then yes extend 3 years. If can't then there are issues for damn sure....
