For instance when MSU went from the worst team in the BSC in 1983 to the NC in 1984 the real reason was their strength coach and some PED's. His name was Rocky Gullickson. He was a total a hole but he knew how to create monsters in the weight room which really helped that team. Rock went on to a very distinguish career in the FBS and NFL as an elite strength coach. We could use that here at UM right now.

1984. That defense was insane. I hadn't yet seen the effect ped's have aggressive behavior. Two of our best players got into a donnybrook at the R Bar with some frat boys that fall & decided to finish the fight by driving to their fraternity, pulling them out of beds one by one and punching them. They probably still have nightmares. The police showed up in our dorm shortly thereafter - like 3 am or so - and we all had to come out into the hall and show them our fists. Needless to say their hands looked like they needed hamburger helper. I can assure you they were placed on double secret fraternity probation & were thoroughly scolded by the staff for over 30 seconds. Today they'd write books about the out of control culture & fire the coaches - may even give the frat reparations. So glad I got an inside seat to that team. Did I ever tell you the story about the time they decided to shave the starting wide receiver's head? As he struggled to get away one of our finest asked 'should I knock him out?'

We have a legit D1 running back in Marcus Knight. If he heals up by next season he will be a huge asset to our team.
In Knight's one season he rushed 227-1030 4.5/carry and 23 TD's, he also caught 34-277 and 2 TD's.Special H said:Jordan_20 said:We have a legit D1 running back in Marcus Knight. If he heals up by next season he will be a huge asset to our team.
Agree to disagree

Are you saying that you don't feel that these are not good enough to be considered "a legit D1 back." ?

First of all I don't care about his numbers, any running back in the FCS would put up numbers like that in the Big Sky conference. BSC teams play very little defense and its why all of them get bounced early in the playoffs every year. Its an unarguable fact.
I want a 220-225lb running back that can hammer the opposing defense 30 times a game and bust it open in the 4th quarter. We don't have that guy on our roster. You would think a coach that likes to run the ball would address that. With a bigger back losing weight as the season goes on he would be around the same size at the end of the season as the current guys weight when they start the season. It matters

QB.
We should be good elsewhere. Hope Grave's continues to grow into the next safety now that Robertson graduated. Other than that I think we are good on defense.
WR should be ok as long as nobody leaves via transfer portal (not saying they will, just stating we look good as of now). Same for TE.
O-line has some good looking young dudes but we could use help from an experienced transfer/dropdown. I like our younger dudes, just need another year of development. I will guess that Casey starts though. The few games he played this year will be valuable and I think he will be strong multi-year starter.
As for QB, the kid from Helena could pan-out to be a great gunslinger, but I highly doubt he will get the chance to start this upcoming season. Is Britt the answer? Patterson? Brown? I bet they compete for the job but I also bet we get a transfer.
We are fine at RB with a healthy Knight, Ostmo, Harris, and the Minnesota kid who has committed.
