Biggest Team Need for 2022?

This is so true. An elite strength and conditioning coach goes a long way in creating superior athletes. For instance when MSU went from the worst team in the BSC in 1983 to the NC in 1984 the real reason was their strength coach and some PED's. His name was Rocky Gullickson. He was a total a hole but he knew how to create monsters in the weight room which really helped that team. Rock went on to a very distinguish career in the FBS and NFL as an elite strength coach. We could use that here at UM right now.

1984. That defense was insane. I hadn't yet seen the effect ped's have aggressive behavior. Two of our best players got into a donnybrook at the R Bar with some frat boys that fall & decided to finish the fight by driving to their fraternity, pulling them out of beds one by one and punching them. They probably still have nightmares. The police showed up in our dorm shortly thereafter - like 3 am or so - and we all had to come out into the hall and show them our fists. Needless to say their hands looked like they needed hamburger helper. I can assure you they were placed on double secret fraternity probation & were thoroughly scolded by the staff for over 30 seconds. Today they'd write books about the out of control culture & fire the coaches - may even give the frat reparations. So glad I got an inside seat to that team. Did I ever tell you the story about the time they decided to shave the starting wide receiver's head? As he struggled to get away one of our finest asked 'should I knock him out?'

That's awesome! Whole world apart from the total cream puffs that play OL for the Griz right now. It's embarrassing. You won't need to worry about too many of these guys fighting in a bar. They would get their asses knocked out fast.

Sad but true, we definitely do not have the men playing OL like in years past. Most don't even look the part, its why our players get hurt when we play real teams in the playoffs

Can we go to the transfer portal and recruit a top U.S. Olympic level orthopedic surgeon? Got to find a way to correct and help stop these damn ACL injuries the Griz seem to be plagued with. The talent and depth is there now. We need to repair knees on multiple OL. Once Knight, Sulser and Capser are all put back together and we find a couple key Offensive Lineman and a couple great QB's, this team is ready to roll!

I remember a couple of guys from that era that had serious injuries and went off the juice. A month would go by and the loss of weight and muscle mass was astounding. Lots of veterinarian quality steroids available back then.

We need a legit DI running back first and foremost
Lots of OL help
Accurate QB with high football IQ

We have a legit D1 running back in Marcus Knight. If he heals up by next season he will be a huge asset to our team.

Agree to disagree

In Knight's one season he rushed 227-1030 4.5/carry and 23 TD's, he also caught 34-277 and 2 TD's.

Are you saying that you don't feel that these are not good enough to be considered "a legit D1 back." ?

Yeah, that's a weird argument. Knight has already shown he's legit.

Biggest needs are quite clearly QB and OL. D should be beastly again next year.

First of all I don't care about his numbers, any running back in the FCS would put up numbers like that in the Big Sky conference. BSC teams play very little defense and its why all of them get bounced early in the playoffs every year. Its an unarguable fact.

I want a 220-225lb running back that can hammer the opposing defense 30 times a game and bust it open in the 4th quarter. We don't have that guy on our roster. You would think a coach that likes to run the ball would address that. With a bigger back losing weight as the season goes on he would be around the same size at the end of the season as the current guys weight when they start the season. It matters

That’s Derrick Henry… and guys like him go to Alabama…

OL
QB
Punter/Kicker

Agree with key OL positions, agree with QB, and I suspect we will grab a punter out of the portal. Got a top rated kicker that is all healed up and ready to go. I think we are ready to roll if we can fill those gaps. Big gaps to say the least though.

We have several players that should get healthy soon, including Knight. My concern is we need to develop programs to keep them healthy and off the injured list. This year was a nightmare with injuries!

O-Line.
QB.

We should be good elsewhere. Hope Grave's continues to grow into the next safety now that Robertson graduated. Other than that I think we are good on defense.

WR should be ok as long as nobody leaves via transfer portal (not saying they will, just stating we look good as of now). Same for TE.

O-line has some good looking young dudes but we could use help from an experienced transfer/dropdown. I like our younger dudes, just need another year of development. I will guess that Casey starts though. The few games he played this year will be valuable and I think he will be strong multi-year starter.

As for QB, the kid from Helena could pan-out to be a great gunslinger, but I highly doubt he will get the chance to start this upcoming season. Is Britt the answer? Patterson? Brown? I bet they compete for the job but I also bet we get a transfer.

We are fine at RB with a healthy Knight, Ostmo, Harris, and the Minnesota kid who has committed.

Just a reminder that one of those BSC teams is playing in the semi finals, and one lost in the quarter finals after defeating another BSC.

I think the three starting safeties are going to be Hauck, Fouch and Cotton. With Graves seeing plenty of time.

My question (I have no idea of the actual numbers)...how many injuries were game related, contact practice related or non-contact? Game related are going to happen (maybe not as high of rate with perhaps a different S/C approach?) Contact in practice can be limited more if they are a major source (not longer beat the hell out of them at practice to make them tough.....tough doesn't help team with a bunch on the injured list or so beat up they are not near 100% in games due to practice, the season is too long for breaking them down in practice. Non-contact, so will happen no matter what, but if number is higher than the norm a different S/C program is in order.

What a shit take and opinion. We have a stable of very food backs. They’re all just freshman. And Knight is a top offensive weapon in the country.
