Griz are the 2 seed and will play the winner 7. NAU vs 8. EWU on Sunday night. Should we win that, we'll get the winner of 3. PSU vs. 6. Idaho in the semis. I tend to think the best path for us is Eastern and Idaho. Although Eastern showed a lot of heart and fight last night, they've lost 5 in a row for a reason and I have a hard time believing they'll have that hot of a shooting night again. NAU is so inconsistent but if you can avoid playing Trent McLaughlin then we should be happy about that. I do think NAU will win that game but I'm pulling for Eastern as I think that's a better matchup.
As for the semis, I actually don't think PSU is that bad of a matchup for us. We easily could've swept them, but I worry about their fast pace, run and gun offense and all their size down low. Idaho on the other hand is starting to fade and has played so inconsistent all year. They didn't look the least bit inspiring last night in Bozeman. PSU swept Idaho so I have a hard time believing the Vandy's can pull it off, but you never know. All it takes is one good game. If Mitchell gets hot, that may be all it takes for them to pull off the upset.
We'll see who emerges from the other side of the bracket, but I'm very fascinated to see that ISU vs cats game on Monday. That feels like a true coin flip. The cats in the last 2 games have completely gone away from Brandon Walker despite the fact that he was the leading scorer on Thursday night, but he's such a liability on defense and at the free throw line that Logie hasn't played him at all in the last 2 games. As for ISU, they go as Dylan Darling goes. I'm curious which of these teams would be able to push UNC more. They both played them pretty close in the regular season matchups but couldn't get it done. We shall see.
